Pocharam dam stretches across the Aleru river, a minor tributary of the Godavari River. The dam hosts a bird sanctuary and an isolated island along with numerous birds, and aquatic life.
Trek notes: There may or may not be any trek. This meetup is to enjoy nature. We may swim for a while. There will be no kayaks and no boating. You can leave early from Pocharam if your group is fine with it.
The Geminids are a meteor shower caused by the object 3200 Phaethon, which is thought to be a Palladian asteroid with a "rock comet" orbit. This would make the Geminids one of the two major meteor showers not originating from a comet. The meteors from this shower are slow moving, can be seen in December and usually peak around the 13th - 14th of the month. The shower is thought to be intensifying every year and recent showers have seen 120–160 meteors per hour under optimal conditions, generally around 2am to 3am local time. As the Geminids this year is near a full moon day, the time of watching many meteors at a time is around 3.30 AM as the moon sets at that time. Even though the moon might be a spoilsport till that time, we might be able to see many meteors as it is the biggest shower of all the meteor showers. Accompanied by a telescope, we will also be observing various constellations and some stars and have an informative session.
People are welcome and encouraged to bring their own telescopes.
