India has one of the highest Road traffic accidents and the subsequent deaths caused due to road accidents. Every hour  approximately  15-20 people lose their lives to road accidents in India(>140,000 in a year). Even more number of citizens are left with life long disabling injuries. The devastating effect on a family by losing  parents or a child is unimaginable.

Recent WHO study has shown some shocking figures about tragic situation on Indian roads. 2 wheeler deaths are unacceptably high (32%) in India, <50% wear helmet and  <10% of the passengers in car wear seat belt!

Government of India , Ministry of road Transport and Highways ( Road Safety Cell) has declared 11-17 January 2014 as the  25th Road Safety Week. The theme for the week is "When you are on the road, always say PEHELE AAP"

(2 wheeler is for 2 only. Save your brain with helmet)

Great Hyderabad Adventure Club (GHAC) and Road safety club  along with Indian development foundation (IDF), Rotary club Secunderabad  are planning "Road safety walk" at Biodiversity park to create awareness amongst the public and school children towards life saving road safety campaign

How  Can you make a difference?

Despite having one of the highest number of road deaths, our country has failed to make  a significant reduction in road accidents through legislation.

The challenge now for all of us is to change the "mindset " of the public to be more responsible whilst on the roads. Road safety week activities will provide you opportunity to be a part of this noble cause, to learn various ways to change the mindset of the road users.
