Best Friends Animal Society is hosting it's First Annual Strut Your Mutt at Mueller Lake Park. Best Friends Animal Society is a national nonprofit organization building no-kill programs and partnerships that will bring about a day when there are No More Homeless Pets®. Their leading initiatives in animal care and community programs are coordinated from their Kanab, Utah, headquarters, the country's largest no-kill animal sanctuary. This work is made possible by the personal and financial support of a grassroots network of supporters and community partners across the nation.
Best Friends started Strut Your Mutt as a fundraising event 17 years ago in Salt Lake City. Three years ago, we introduced Strut Your Mutt events to New York and Los Angeles and changed the fundraising model so that Strut Your Mutt would help local animal rescue groups raise critical funds to continue their livesaving work. This year, Strut Your Mutt is being held in nine cities across the country including Austin and includes a virtual Strut Across America, with the goal of raising $1 million for rescue organizations nationwide.
Registration begins at 7:00 am with the walk to begin at 8:30 am. The festival ends at noon. Their will be vendors, booths and activities for the pups and whole family. No more than 2 dogs per paid registrant. Couples can register for $50, individual walkers are $30, kids with a t-shirt are $20, kids without a t-shirt are free. If you can't walk but want to donate, you can be a virtual walker for $10. You can walk as an individual or join a local rescue "dog pack." Two local rescue groups participating are Austin Pets Alive and Big Dog Rescue.
