Auditorium Shores Dog Park
Public Input Meeting
Saturday, September 28, 2013
11:00AM – 12:00PM

Dougherty Arts Center (Across from Auditorium Shores)
1110 Barton Springs Rd,78704

Planned improvements to Auditorium Shores are long past due. This round of renovations has been in the works for two decades. Austin Parks and Recreation now refers to the plan as a creation of a "destination and showcase" dog park. A commitment of an $1.25m investment to an Austin dog park is not only significant, but also unprecedented.

Austin has 12 fantastic dog park/off-leash areas across the city. Whether you visit Auditorium Shore or any of the other dog parks in the city, you are strongly encouraged to participate in the discussion for this plan.

Aside from the improvements to the park, plans are in the works to incorporate new "leash" restrictions. Get the facts, get involved.

What does a $1.25m dog park look like in Austin Texas? What are the design features to be included?

K9 Owners/Handlers who use our dog parks please attend this meeting. This investment in Austin's Dog Park environment is unprecedented. By building a "destination and showcase" dog park we establish a visual for how existing dog parks can be transformed and break ground for conversation on building new dog parks in areas of the city that lack this amenity.

Please make plans to attend this public input meeting and share your thoughts on design and amenities.

I'm really struggling to figure out how to put a good spin on this. OK, I can't... I quick look at the map reveals the off leash area reduced to a fraction (one eigth?) of the original and pushed into the corner where there is a huge embankment further curtailing the usable area. And does the no leash area mean you can't even walk your dog on the trail around the lake anymore? There's no place left for "Fetch" unless you run with your dog on a leash. Unless your dog is a dock diver, this new park is useless for any kid of exercise. Message from the city to us "we love your dogs. We just don't want to see them in our new flagship downtown park" And it will only cost the taxpayers $1.2M to kick you out!
