I have sent the following LTE to the Observer regarding the plan to
punish Syria. I tried to keep it as brief as possible, to make it more
likely that they would print it. I plan to submit a longer,
more-thorough version to the Lake Norman Citizen. I no longer see the
Observer, so if anyone sees it published, please let me know.
To the editor:
The drumbeat for military action in Syria, coming from the White House
and some members of Congress, represent the same world-police
mentality that drew the US into war in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and
Afghanistan. As Vladimir Putin has asked, Where has been the benefit
from those wars? If the President hadn't painted himself into a corner
with his "red line" remarks, he wouldn't now be scrambling to defend
American honor before the world.

"The troublemakers, they are those who are not contented with God's
gifts of good food, drink, music, women, profit. No, they bring on
misery because they must play at being God themselves; they will be
our Saviors with a capital ass."
