A History....

I got online today with the intention of looking up the history of government. What was the first government, where did the monopoly of force outside of the indivudial come from? It turns out that the earliest government was in Mesopotamia. The ancient civilizations there had developed their own currency, property and personal codes of conduct. The first "Kings" gained their positions of power by lying about (or being totally crazy) their relationships to the Gods. That or they said that they themselves were Gods. So in all this time I guess that political rulers and they're roles in society have not changed at all. Individual men telling lies and giving themselves none existent legitimacy. Technology and progress, money, property...they were all underway before these false authority figures came to power, and then insisted that people give up a certain amount of their crops or yield to finance their endevors. So there in a nutshell was where all the real trouble for us started, a combination of religious fear and lies.
Does it ever strike anyone else as odd how people somehow give governmental officals some sort of implied legitimacy? What makes these people any different or better then the rest of the people? What qualificatons other then persuasiveness can politicians hold up as evidence of their superiority? Why do people grant other people the ability to run their lives? At least back then primitive people had Gods which they had to worry about. What keeps civilized rational people in this day and age voting in people and granting them authority as opposed to the average person. What progress is made by politicians? Can anyone name a politician who was able to bring about any new inventions or innovative and unheard of insights which led into real progress for humanity? All the achievers and innovators dont hold positions in government, they are to busy being innovative to bother with others. Cant we get these politicians out of the way of the innovators which all of us depend on?
