High Point is a vast in-city redevelopment that has received many accolades and both national and international awards. The first phase is nearly complete and almost fully occupied.

Get an up-close and personal look at the environmental aspects of this Built Green certified community:

~ Bioswales
~ Porous streets and sidewalks
~ Community gardens
~ Pocket parks
~ Pond and waterfall features

If you would like, you can tour available models and resale homes currently on the market on the day of the walk.

The organizer and tour guide, Wendy Hughes-Jelen, is a licensed real estate agent and Built Green Certified Agent who has lived in the area for 10 years (West Seattle). When she saw the new HP she sold her home to move to High Point. She also writes a blog called Green Spaces Real Estate.

This event is part of the Learn Along With Jenny field curriculum for Spring 2008

Jenny is a senior at Redmond High School and is working on her final project. The question she is working on and will be presenting in a report and also a Power Point presentation to her class in order to meet graduation requirements is: "How can I create change in my behavior and influence the people around me to lead a more sustainable lifestyle? And how would I continue to grow and increase my participation in a long-term sustainable lifestyle over the next 5, 10, and 20 years?"

Field curriculum designed by Wendy includes:
A guided field tour of the Built Green Community of High Point in West Seattle (3 hrs)
Learn about nvironmental functions that manage water runoff in addition to showing off green living features indoors.
Staff-led guided tour of a PCC and/or Whole Foods store (1 hr each)
Take a tour of EcoHaus (formerly known as Environmental Home Center)
Go see a L.E.E.D. certified commercial building (optional ? 1 hr)
Explore organic clothing, cosmetic, and hair care options (3 hrs)
Read current topics on a recommended list of environmental blogs from a selection I will provide (1 hr+)
