For cliffsnotes readers:

These pages are dedicated to serving current AA members in Greenville SC and to attract those who may be seeking help.

We follow the AA way of doing things via the 12 step program, using sponsors, and attending meetings.

This outlet is designed to give others an additional way to serve their AA community by setting up additional meetings or a great place to organize a "meeting after the meeting" as well as starting online discussions.  Basically a one-stop-shop where Greenville AA members can connect online anonymously.

For readers with patience:

This group is designed for those who struggle with problems with alcohol and are looking for additional outlets or maybe a way to help others. If you are currently a member of AA or you have a problem with alcohol and have questions, this is a good group to join. The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking.

I decided to start this group, because I remember earlier in my sobriety how hard it was to sleep(and still is sometimes), and how many waking nights I spent wishing there was a midnight (or later)meeting, or someone I could just go hang out with at a waffle house and talk. Sponsors are great necessary powerful tools and friends, but I tended to only want to call them at 1, 2, 3am if it's an actual Emergency in your sobriety. The hotline is good for emergencies too, but I wished there was an ease of pressure, just knowing that there may be someone else available too at an odd hour, anyone who would understand the hungry, angry, lonely, or tired, just to hang out.

The purpose of this group is (hopefully) to give other's in AA additional outlets. That other's who feel capable will start there own mini-meetings, or meetups on their own time. NOT a substitute for meetings, but an ADDITION to. I urge members to pick a time of the week when they KNOW they're free and think "this would be a good time to go to a meeting if there was one" and start a meetup on this page. Even if only 1 or 2 others join your specific meetup, you may be saving someone's sobriety, and by helping them you will be helping yourself. You may not get joiners every time, but I think it's worth a shot, as I know I'll be planning several midnight meetings myself.

This group will be set as private so it's members will remain anonymous except to other members. Even then, if it is your desire to remain as anonymous as possible please edit your profile information so you are not posting your full name, and you have no pictures. Those who start meetups may post contact information if desired but will not be necessary as all you will need is a time and public location. Restaurants are a good start, but I'm sure other's may get creative.  I'm hoping we'll eventually be utilized for even larger scale events such as AA outtings and picnics.

It would also be very cool if we wanted to start discussion topics to use at meetups or have some limited discussion directly online. I will also post the current greenville AA meetings list just for convenience purposes.
