Introduction to Meditation

Lama Yeshe once said "to liberate yourself, you must know yourself". We discuss the purpose and benefits of meditation, investigate the nature of the mind, and practice a variety of different meditation techniques. Using readings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, we learn how Buddha helps us re-define happiness in ways that lead to a healthier sense of self and better relationships with others.

Beginning in May, the class will focus on transforming negative emotions.

Each session consists of guided and silent meditations, and a facilitated discussion. All are welcome to attend, no previous experience is required. This is a small, relaxed class suitable for beginners. Wear comfortable clothes.

The meditation hall is open from 9:30 to 10:00 before class for silent meditation, feel free to come and relax.

Suggested readings by His Holiness: The Essence of Happiness How to Practice the Way to a Meaningful Life; An Open Heart: practicing compassion in everyday life; and How to See Yourself As You Really Are.

The class will draw loosely on these and other books, but there's no required reading.

Facilitator: Ven. Tendrol
