My favorite moment at Ella Lounge is when I tore the house down with my two Dirty Dancing songs.

Hey guys & gals, we had a scout in the audience last night. He is the CEO of Night Roads Entertainment. I didn't notice him until later in the night. He is a good friend and I'm glad he came out to support me! He currently manages a few acts that have laid down tracks and have play for Paul McCartney. Hopefully I can get him back to see us next month!

I gotta hand it to you this group is by far the most talented of any guitar group ever. Lots of different styles were on display last night.

  • Joe G.

I foresee rapid growth and expansion in this group. It is a great community group.

How late did it run last night? You're gonna need a bigger room, if this gets any more popular.

    1 · August 14, 2013

  • bwaySteve B.

Packed house, great energy as always. People performing for
one another is " Reality Entertainment".

Amazing experience last night. Huge thank you to all who were there and let me skip ahead so I could get home to deal with marital issues. It felt so good to be in a room filled with such wonderfully diverse people all speaking the universal language of music.

  • Daniel B.

Thank you everyone for an amazing evening. You're all are guitar superstars in my book. I've never seen so many talented guitarists in one room.

How many of you like the movie Dirty Dancing? Well on Thursday I'll be hitting the road to the place the movie was filmed, Lake Lure, NC. Before I go you're in for a treat. I'm not doing Five Finger Death Punch until October but I'm performing a guitar cover if Patrick Swayze's She's Like The Wind.

    2 · August 9, 2013

    • Daniel B.

Since the meetup requires I can perform two songs, how another Dirty Dancing hit? My own guitar cover of Hungry Eyes is my second song I'll perform.

      1 · August 13, 2013

    • Arthur S.

Hungry Eyes is fantastic! Peel the paint off the walls.

I have a friend who would like to come tonight, but she is new to meetup and is not a member of the group. Would she be able to come with me tonight and sign up when she gets there ?

    August 13, 2013

  • Daniel B.

My fellow guitarists. Looks like the rain should taper off by later on tonight. By the time you start to jam in the lounge there's good chance of clear skies. See you at 6!

    2 · August 13, 2013

  • Dave V.

Hey everyone, meetup is telling me the lounge is on 9th and 35 but google maps is showing down on the east side. Does anyone know the exact address?

    August 13, 2013

    • Daniel B.

9 Ave A. It's on the corner of E. Houston St. And Ave A.

      August 13, 2013

  • Quirky M.

So if there are roughly 70 people playing, and each can play for 10 minutes, the open mic would run for nearly 12 hours! How many people typically show, and how long does each actually play for?
Thanks in advance for any answers!

    • bwaySteve B.

The pressures of modern life, fear of embarrassment and an unrealistic need for approval seem to keep about half the people who say they're coming from doing so. We're working on solving the last two and when we do then there WILL be too many and we'll have to deal with THAT.Maybe we can find a way to speed up time. Anything's possible on the Lower East Side.

      August 12, 2013

    • Daniel B.

You might see me in a different outfit than usual. In case you guys get there late find a guy wearing all black. That's my Patrick Swayze outfit I'm wearing for the show tonight.

      August 13, 2013

  • Jean P. L.

Hey - I'm wondering if I absolutely must bring one of my guitars (or would there be an acoustic I could just use available)? I'm coming from NJ, and would prefer not to have to lug it out there? I didn't see this addressed in the FAQs.

    August 9, 2013

    • bwaySteve B.

It is fun to watch but the real fun of an open mic is in the playing . Why ? Because you really want to hear everyone do their thing as much as you want people to hear your stuff. That's the dual benefit of this experience. It takes a LOT to build the following you need to be asked back to a venue you have played at. Much of the focus then becomes marketing yourself to family , friends , co workers. It's kind of the downside of being a performer in New York.In a small town ,the local talent becomes the pool of performers and if you're good ,they put you in rotation. Here you play to a room that wants to see you. It's almost like having a following.Once you get to know the people a little it is very supportive. You think, " WOW. there actually ARE other people like me who sit in a dark room and play songs hundreds of times to perfect them " This is very integrating because you feel more like part of a community , less like some kind of creative "hermit".

HEY THERE.INCIDENTALLY, IT'S NOTHING LIKE JAMMING AND HAVING FUN W/UR MUSICAL PEERS! ( :

    August 9, 2013

    • Charlie A.

Hi Jazz. Welcome. Just to clarify, this is an open mic, not a jam. Please take a moment to read the FAQs at the top of the Group's page. Thanks. See you Tuesday.

      August 9, 2013

  • Jay V

Also I would encourage all, especially first time players, to read the FAQ, which is liked on the main page. Most of your questions will be answered therein.

Is this open mic the second Tuesday or the third Tuesday of each month, or does the date change from month to month?

    August 8, 2013

    • Charlie A.

      Hi EZ -- 2nd Tuesday.

      1 · August 8, 2013

    • Jay V

And the dates are posted well in advance.

For anyone seeking to let go of their god-given talents ( I didn't say genius) MANY goes are required to loosen the inner knot of the human. We as a culture have strayed from the spirit of entertaining one another. Tuesday a group that knows it has strayed from the tribe returns to practice one sacred ( and fun) ritual.THERE'S A BARTENDER DOWN THERE TOO !!!

    1 · August 7, 2013

    • Jay V

Broadway Steve, ever the musical philosopher! Would you bring a harmonica suitable for playing a song with verses in A and choruses in B? ;)

      August 7, 2013

  • Yvonne

Will be a bit late, but with this long list of players I'm sure I won't miss much! :D

    August 7, 2013

  • eddie t.

I will give it another go at tryimg to loosen up.

Q: I love to play the guitar and sing. I've even written a few songs and think I sound as good as a lot of the people I see on You Tube. I have always wanted to do an Open Mic and have decided to attend the next one but can't seem to get out of the house that day. What's going on ?
A: You are experiencing fear and resistance. Performing is interactive. It is part of an ancient tradition of social integration and communication. When we share our talents and points of view through our music it is a very intimate experience for both YOU and the AUDIENCE.Open Mics allow you to experience this interaction in a controlled and supportive way. This group is VERY inviting and friendly. The $5 fee provides you with a comfortable venue and good sound system.

If this is your First, or your first in 15 years this is the one you should attend. You will not regret it.

I won't be performing; just would like to come and check it out.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
