Sunday Guitar Picnic in Central Park... awww yeah!!!

Hey y'all! This summer, I'm on tour... however, the picnics are just too popular, so we will keep the tradition going!

Group organized picnics

These picnics will be organized by members of the group. What does that mean? Beginning July 14, until the weather is cold (probably October), there will always be guitarists from our group meeting at the Great Hill, every Sunday starting at 2pm in good weather. This means that if you're looking to meet other guitarists to jam with, learn new tips + songs, or just hang out with friends and play frisbee, there will always be members of our group meeting there to play.

Updates

Because I am not there to host...

-read the weather beforehand and use your own best judgement (the meetup will remain on the site even in bad weather)

-be especially kind and welcoming to new members (our group is famous for that!)

-please keep the comments on the meetup page positive and constructive. If there's something that you see could improve the group, contact the organizers directly and volunteer to pitch in!

Our traditions continue:

-the picnics are always FREE

-feed each other (bring enough food/drinks to share for yourself and a few friends) When you RSVP, please include what you plan to bring. Coolers are always welcome.

-the picnics are open to all levels, ages, and even people who don't play guitar, friends, lovers, dogs, and babies (we do regret that poorly-behaved children will walk the plank...)

-printed pages of songs with the lyrics and chords are always popular (if someone wants to volunteer to make an NYCGG songbook like we have in the past, email us!)

Have a great time!!!

Directions:

By subway: B,C to 103rd and Central Park West or the 1 to 103rd and Broadway
By bus: M10 on Central Park West; M7 or M11 going north on Amsterdam Avenue or south on Columbus Avenue; M104 on Broadway. From the East Side, the M96 to 96th and Central Park West.

Suggestion. Can we get a heads up on some of the songs people intend to bring so that there is time to learn lyrics/melodies/chords a bit in advance? There were a couple songs that kind of fizzled out today that would have been great if at least two to three of us knew them a bit more. Like, "I'm bringing Tangerine and I Shot the Sheriff next week", etc. That way those who are not so quick to pick things up can work it out a bit before coming... Just a thought! What say you all.....?

I guess since it's going to rain no one willl show. pity there isn't an alternate. Like under the bandshell on 72nd street in the park to stay out of the rain.

That's a great idea Eddie! We should investigate what other places there are on rain days.

Fun again! I'll be out of town the next couple of weeks, will also rest my arm, and see you in August! Too bad some of the singers didn't come this week.

Most of the weather reports I've seen say slight chance of rain/storms. I'm expecting that any bursts of rain will be short-lived. I say, bring an umbrella\( but you probably won't need it much), and come on out!

I will write another post at around noonish to see if anyone is going.

Would like to attand but what about the rain? How will I know if anyone shows up?

    July 20, 2013

If it rains we go, if it doesn't it's canceled. Use your best judgement and keep an eye on the comments here.

Ok, wait. If it rains, YES? If it's sunny, then NO? I know you meant it the other way around, though right? I know that playing guitar in the rain sounds romantic and/or cool but I bet you it's really not! :)

Hi, I am a newbie and interested to learn guitar. I don't own a guitar yet and planning to buy one to use in this meet up. Any recommendation for the type and brand of guitar for a totally newbie. Thanks.

I was thinking of bringing the sheet music to Led Zeppelin's "Tangerine." The chords aren't too hard and it even has the solo if someone wants to try to do something with that.

Had a good time Sunday and would be there if I didn't have two lessons that day, both far away from the jam site.

Pleasure meeting evry1 and looking fwd to doing it again this sumr!

  • Yvonne

I hope I'll be able to play enough chords decently enough to really hang with you this Sunday! :)

    July 19, 2013

    • Charles W.

Please come. It will be fun. The best way to learn is to hang out with fellow guitarists.

Will try to attend. Never jammed or played with any group before. Can play some jazz chords, but that's it.
