Second Sunday Guitar Picnic in Central Park!!!

Welcome to guitar picnic season!!! For four years now, we've been holding picnics throughout the summer where you can meet other guitarists and enjoy some tasty treats in the beautiful surroundings of Central Park. We're excited for the 2014 season! Beginning in April through October, there will always be guitarists from our group meeting at the Great Hill, every second Sunday of the month starting at noon in good weather. This means that if you're looking to meet other guitarists, learn new tips + songs, or just hang out with friends and play frisbee, there will always be members of our group meeting there to play.

Updates:

-read the weather beforehand and use your own best judgement (the meetup will remain on the site even in bad weather)

-be especially kind and welcoming to new members. Our group is famous for that!

-it's always a good idea to RSVP on our meetup site.  Then if you meet some people you really resonate with at the picnic, it's easy to stay in touch!

Our traditions continue:

-the picnics are always FREE are open to all levels & ages

-feed each other (bring enough food/drinks to share for yourself and a few friends) When you RSVP, please include what you plan to bring. Coolers are always welcome!

See you soon!!!

I was better prepared this time, like I promised in my last review. It was cool for attendees to turn to me for some entertainment, but I wish I didn't sound so nasal. Anyway, I'll be back in June--weather permitting--because May is allergy season for me. : 0

Cool as always. Was a great first park meetup of the year. Picked up on some good songs to learn and am looking forward to the next one!

Unfortunately, today is a really bad day for me to go. I hope to make it next month, provided that it doesn't interfere with Mother's Day.

Been meaning to make it to the park for some jamming. Any songwriters, or is it mostly covers. Regardless, I look forward to some music in the sun.

@lucas, wow, that's impressive, I know most of Tommy's songs are pretty hard and hard to catch its rhythm, hope to see you play there

Hello all! Looking forward to meeting other guitar players. What songs can I play? A lot of Elliott Smith stuff. I don't have anything memorized anymore, but I can usually figure a song out quick. As far as my own style goes, I have the most fun playing some kind of percussive Spanish/rock/jazz rhythm abomination. Rodrigo y Gabriela, Django Reinhardt, Alice in Chains are some of my biggest influences. LOVE playing Drum n' Bass, and anything with a strong rhythm.

I've got my set (pretty abnormal one) but I can only remember 12-15 at a time, so I'll just learn yours when we're there and do it that way :-D Looking forward to Sunday.

    I'm the easy one. :) :

    Addicted to Love
    Leaving on a Jet Plane
    In Your Eyes
    Living on a Prayer
    Fire and Rain

Trying to work on Sick Sad Little World by Incubus, but I may have bitten off more than I can chew at the moment with that one. It's a work in progress, anyhow!

hey everyone! i am bringing these songs to play with y'all:

Someday Never Comes, Proud Mary; Credence Clearwater Revival.
Heart of Gold, Ohio; Neil Young.
    Karma Police; Radiohead.
Patience, Sweet Child o' Mine, Guns n Roses.
    Gimme Shelter, Rolling Stones.
In My Life, Revolution, le Beatles.

i'm bringing a music stand and, as long as my printer is co-operative, i'll bring charts w/yrics + chords for all to read.

    Thanks again, looks like fun!

Good song list, though it rarely lasts. People tend to splinter off into to smaller groups, based on tastes and skill level.

Good to have some common ground to congregate over at certain points, though!

Hey. Can some of you list the songs you plan to bring/play? We were doing that last year and it's always a good heads up for newbies or anyone who'd like to get a head start on things.... :)

Will attend in May or June. Will bring an electric guitar and hopefully a battery-powered amp. Does anyone else play electric guitar?

I would love to come when the weather gets warmer - I'm new to guitar so finding people passionate about guitars would be super helpful and fun for me :). Feel free to add me. Not sure about this sunday but definitely soon!

As much as I wanted to come, I have to cancel my RSVP. If it's warm, I'll try to host a music picnic of my own the weekend after if anyone is interested.
