Jay - seriously - you've got to control your more carnal impulses. Ride the hunger. Feast on the music. ;)

The lifeblood of an open mic comes from attracting new people and we always have a couple or a few newcomers. It renews your faith in talent as a commodity and everyone feels immediately part of this event. There's no hazing, tribal ritual or ass-kissing necessary to become part of our group. That's what's so nice for me personally. We're all getting better together and we're all becoming a better audience too.I think a lot has to do with Charlie being so gracious and committed.I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people feel comfortable too because at many open mics you are the next cattle going to slaughter. On the contrary, we want everyone to KILL !
    See you next month.

You are NEVER "ready" to do an Open Mic.That thinking is just avoidance behavior. You can play your song a million times sitting on the corner of your bed in your underwear, you're STILL not a performer. At an open mic you ARE a performer and you are the audience as well. Before you play the Beacon ( in your own mind) do at least one open mic. Your audience will appreciate it.

Did my first open mic at Lucky Jacks thursday before last and it was a blast! Been wanting to come to this meet up for...years, actually. Been playing in my kitchen to the vegetables. Ha! Self taught guitar player, song writer, lover of the music sharing.

Hello, Everyone! Looking forward to hearing y'all play and joining you in song tomorrow. I invited another singer/guitarist to play, also. she's bringing her axe and we're bringing some new friends to listen! Cheers!

I am ready.I am practicing .I have been punishing myself when I forget the lyrics and pinching my cheek in approval when I pretty much get through a song without many mistakes. I feel like I'm in 3rd grade.I learned a LOT that year...

Are you going to age regress on stage?

      1 · July 31

    • bwaySteve B.

Let's put it this way Jay, I would definitely accept a 20 year regression.

      1 · July 31

  • bwaySteve B.

Yea, I went "old school" ,not that evolved but really tied into my past conditioning.

And then down hill from 4th grade to 12? Well remember, "you gotta suffer if you want to sing the blues". I look forward to seeing you at the next open mic., pink cheeks and all.
