Excellent Hike! Thanks for leading, Gary! The time you put into preparing these hikes, the care you take to make sure that everyone is prepared, and the attention you give to make sure nobody has any issues along the trail, is a wonderful model for any new hike leader. Thanks!!

It is almost nearly impossible to drink so much water that you will die! You'd have to drink gallons upon gallons! It is SUPER important to stay hydrated whenever doing strenuous activity and to drink a least half your body weight in ounces of water a day! More people have a problem not drinking enough water than drinking too much! I'm positive none of you are going to die from drinking too much water! It's a good thing someone suggested hydration!

I think your overhyping overhydration... Over hydration is caused by diluting sodium levels... And drinking to much water to quickly. Most endurance runners should also be drinking something other than water.... Something with electrlights! When in a strenous run or hike you shouldn't lose more than two percent of your body weight.... Otherwise you didn't drink enough! You can go days without food... You can't go very long without water... And without enough water your organs an muscles are not going to function properly...meaning you will probably have to drop out... Heat stroke is often caused by dehydration... People die from that all the time... I am training for a marathon... I drink AT LEAST a gallon of water a day... And also something with electro lights in it on a long run day! I spread it out throughout the day... I'm alive and kicking... As a general rule you HAVE to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day, throughout the day! Common sense! .

OMG never mind. Please forget everything I typed I was just kidding, honest.

      August 22, 2013

  • Ryan B.

And should we also begin hydrating 2 days beforehand?

    August 14, 2013

    • Katie

More folks die or have issues from under hydration... Not over hydration! It is possible to over hydrate, but nearly impossible!

      August 22, 2013

    • Katie

You should be hydrating everyday!! Otherwise your body retains water. Causing bloating, headaches, muscle weakness, ext.., you don't want that on a long hike!

    The map is now correct.

All I want to do is lead this hike. Since there are so many experts coming, all of you may lead the hike and I'll stay home.

Is the map correct? I thought the Nature Center was closer to Clover than PMC Road?

    August 21, 2013

    • Gary F.

No the map is not right. Turn onto Pond Rd. from Clover and the Nature Center parking lot will be immediately on your right.

Waht is the route for the 11 mile hike? Are you planning on doing the Esker Trail as part of the hike?

    August 21, 2013

    • Gary F.

Yes the East Esker trail is one of 5 trails that we will be hiking. We will hike the nature trail, quaker pond trail, south meadow trail, east esker trail, and north meadow trail.

I'll be at both. Just did Gannett this morning. I'm sure you can do it, but it is on the strenuous side.
