Wonderful job on your first lead hike, Ryan! It was perfect for me... not too long or strenuous, but great cardio bursts running up the hills. Should be in great shape for Hi Tor tomorrow!

I'm in good shape but new to hiking. Should I start out with another hike or try this out, and are sneakers appropriate?

This is a hilly one, but nothing too bad or too long. I'd say if you're in good shape you should try this one. We should take about 2 hours to finish, with a moderate pace. And as far as sneakers, there were mud and wet leaves which have hopefully dried up some this week. I usually wear boots but I'll venture a guess that sneakers should be fine. I'm new to hike leading, so any of our more experienced members can chime in as well.

I haven't hiked Lucien in regular sneakers, but I would think that trail sneakers or hiking boots (I've worn both there) would offer a higher level of security. There aren't a lot of rocky sections, but there are tree roots and mud/leaves, as Ryan said. If you're pretty sure-footed, I'm sure you'll do fine in sneakers. If you're worried about slipping, I'd go with something that has a more rugged sole. Just my two cents!

Just to let you all know, another club is hiking RR later on Saturday morning. I let the leader of that one know that there will be a larger-than-usual amount of cars in that smallish lot when they begin, so there shouldn't be a problem. We'll meet in the same spot, but I plan to park myself next door at MacG's which is a bit larger.

I scouted this yesterday, and there are definitely slick spots with mud and wet leaves. Hopefully we're done with the rain this week after today.

Didn't see any bees, though, for anyone concerned about that (I appreciate the kind offers below).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
