    Ryan,
Thanks for taking us on a spectacular view of Rochester's river water front along quite a day's walk.
I am glad that I made it today.
    Well done.

Great day for a long but scenic hike! Special thanks to those who volunteered to drive, making our car shuttle a success. I just wish I had been taking pictures of the many locations on our journey to upload. We finished at 2:30, so it would have been cut close for whoever had to be somewhere by 3. See you on the trails!

I will need to park my car at the Seneca Park Zoo, as I must bail early.

Could someone pick me up on the way from the Charlotte Terminal to Brighton Town Park?

I don't want to speak for Sophia, but it sounds like she and I have the same need to split early.

I'm sorry folks, I won't be able to go on this hike, this time. Have a great time, the weather looks perfect!

In Charlotte Saturday morning: I'll meet everyone by the Ontario Beach Park sign (there's construction over near the terminal building, so don't go there). I'll bring coffee and donut holes to share.

What time do you want us to meet in Brighton? Also what will your pace be like? What time do anticipate us being done?

    September 17, 2014

    • Ryan B.

We should be in Brighton around 8:45, so meet us there at that time, then we can start our hike. As far as pace, mine is moderate to brisk, but will adjust to that of the group; there are no big hills like Hi Tor, but it is a long distance which makes for a strenuous hike. With some water/snack breaks along the way, my best guess has us finishing in Charlotte around 3:30.

For those curious: we meet at Charlotte Ferry Terminal at 8:15 to determine rides to Brighton Town Park, where our hike will begin.

From Brighton, the hike will go through Highland Park, a bit of Mount Hope Cemetery, then along the Genesee River past downtown, High Falls, Maplewood Park, then either Seneca Park or Turning Point (haven't decided yet) before ending at Charlotte Pier. I know it's ambitious, but if you ever wanted to hike the length of the city of Rochester, here's your chance.

I'll try to scout the whole route, probably the Sunday before the hike, to get a better idea of the mileage and time. I think it will be quite flat for the most part, but I'll share more details later.

What do you mean 'rides to Brighton Town Park' specifically? What is our transportation from Charlotte?

      September 16, 2014

    • Ryan B.

It's a car shuttle...we carpool to Brighton, walk to Charlotte, then whoever volunteers will drive the people who left their cars in Brighton back there to retrieve them. We figure out who does what in Charlotte on Saturday morning.

Sophia, I used the link to the map successfully. That about looks like the plan, except that Ryan may go down the west side of the river after Ridge Rd.
That does not really make a difference to me as there is a pedestrian bridge, north of Ridge Rd that goes over the river between Seneca Park and Maplewood Park. Therefore regardless of which way Ryan goes, the car is still available at Seneca Park Zoo.

I've decided we will go up the east side through Seneca Park, and we should reach there before 2. Perhaps, Larry and Sophia, you want to arrange a car shuttle of your own from there. Just a thought. :-)

Just got done scouting this...and boy, are my legs tired. I ended up with 18 miles in about 5 hours 45 minutes, but then I made a few diversions I won't make on Saturday. The map Sophia linked to below is pretty close to what our route will be, but I plan more of a loop through Highland Park. Good, comfortable shoes are a must (I had sneakers but wore them with two pairs of socks...bringing extra socks would be a good idea).

    Ryan,
I will def need to be done by 3:00, if not before. I am thinking to pre-stage my car at the Seneca Park Zoo lot so that I can leave the hike at that point.
(2:00 pm bday for my granddaughter).
Will keep in touch, but I will need someone to pick me up on the drive from Charlotte to Brighton.
    Thanks,
    Larry

Larry and Ryan, I am interested in this version of the plan. I need to be somewhere by about 2pm. I have to find out if it works. Let me know if you can or can't link to this map: http://goo.gl/maps/g9...
