Intro to Electronics, Week 4

  • November 7, 2012 · 8:00 PM

(NOTE: This was rescheduled from the original date of Oct. 31 due to low attendance and possibly the hurricane. We'll figure out a date for the content from Week 5 (and maybe even Week 6, at this rate) at this session.)

This is the fourth session out of five in a new course on introductory electronics. (It ought to be six, but we'll start running into Thanksgiving if we try to schedule a sixth Wednesday that doesn't conflict with other activities. The other dates are: Oct. 3, Oct. 17, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.)

This course is designed for complete beginners, but it is a new course taught by someone new to teaching at HacDC, so it'll be a learning experience for everyone. (That's also one of the reasons we'll be keeping the class size low this first time around, though.)

By the end of the course, you should have some experience using basic electronic components (LEDs, switches, resistors, capacitors, simple digital logic) and test equipment (such as multimeters and oscilloscopes), and you'll have built a few useful (or at least interesting) circuits, including a night light, a basic power supply and a Larson scanner (Cylon eye).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
