In the age of viral hits and drive-by readers, it's harder then ever to keep readers coming back to read your site and be part of a community. Wired is approaching the problem with a range of tactics, from building community-focused sites around their design and geek parenting blogs, to analyzing data generated by social media feeds to deploying a related stories tool that emphasizes context.
Wired community manager Meighan O'Toole, Wired social and community editor Brian Mossop, and Wired editor and Contextly founder Ryan Singel will share what they're doing to keep readers coming back for more.
Panelists:
-Meighan O'Toole has been building and cultivating community online since 2005, she currently works as Community Manager at Wired.
-Brian Mossop handles everything social and community at Wired. In a previous life he was a research scientist.
-Ryan Singel edits Wired's Threat Level blog and is the founder of Contextly, a startup devoted to putting news in context.
Schedule:

Thank you very much, Burt, for giving those of us traveling on B A R T this opportunity to bow out gracefully, without any penalties or being unable to attend future events with this group. Having checked with 511, the issues with the fire damage remains an issue & B A R T remains down, therefore I am changing my R S V P foot tonight. I'll contact you Friday regarding a refund. Thanks again & enjoy tonight's event!

If you want to cancel due to transit issues, please do so now so others can get in from the waitlist. I will be handling all refunds after the event to those who don't make it. Thanks!

Knowing this now about B A R T -- I too am concerned about this refund policy as I was going to use B A R T to get to tonight's event. Will the policy be amended due to these kinds of unforeseeable problems? Thanks.

I have the same concern as Amy. If BART is down I will not be able to make it and would also like a refund.

A big fire in West Oakland has BART shut down. If it stays shut down, I won't be able to make it. Could I get a refund in that event?

Should be interesting - I'm particularly curious about the tech they're thinking of deploying to drive more engagement..
June 13
I'd be curious to hear specifically what Wired is doing to engage readers via mobile devices -- not just their own app(s), but also via the mobile web, mobile social media, and text messaging.
