Hack - yes: Interview, transcribe, compose, motivational and creative writing Hacker - yes: HTML, design standards, consistency, ease of navigation, graphics, photos Much of the publication time is spent editting/uploading photos. I have a ton of these in support of the content. Almost a magazine style. As far as "real" hacking is concerned, not much since I use a limited amount of HTML - would love to increase that.
Upham's Corner is 90% people of color and a community marked by poverty and crime (7 murders last year). The Strand Theatre is here but the Mayor, while putting $ into the Strand, is not putting $ into UC so the Strand and the arts suffer and so does UC. Ex: No parking for Strand visitors. Started the Upham's Corner Improvement Association as a grass-roots organization promoting participation by ALL and leadership by ALL to make a difference in our community. We have a vision that sees our (neglected, abused and beautiful) community becoming a center for the arts, arts education and adult education. Recently joined an arts collaborative UrbanSites whose goal is to bring arts to UC. Barbara Lewis from U-Mass Trotter Institute and Jacqui Lindsay, heading up. So I am (subtly or otherwise) promoting the arts in UC by simply reporting on it, or since it doesn't exist, writing articles about the "arts vision." If someone were interested in writing for UC News, yes.
Loved writing my whole life - mostly creative. To effect greater transparency in my community, started online newspaper 8/10. Would love to get more people involved but online journalists are a rare breed. http://www.uphams...
