Join Hacks/Hackers NYC at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 when we take a look at journalism, reporting and display of data on mobile devices.
Speakers include:
• Luke Miller, senior UX architect and mobile lead for The Wall Street Journal
Design and implementation process of data products for Dow Jones (WSJ, MarketWatch, SmartMoney, Factiva) begins with a roundtable and ends with rigorous testing. Visual experiences to assist in understanding data is getting a opportunity to reinvent itself with touchinteractions. Luke's talk will be about the process we go through to make data visualization products for Dow Jones users.
• Zach Seward from Quartz, newly launched at qz.com
Zach will talk about how Quartz approaches designing for a wide range of devices and screen sizes, talk through the idea of a "mobile-first infographic," and share examples from other news organizations and websites that Quartz looks to for inspiration.

A huge thank you to O'Reilly Media and Strata Conference for supporting this Hacks/Hackers event, which is part of NYC Data Week.
I had thought that there would be greater depth in terms of methods for displaying data on devices and data visualization in general. The first speaker from the WSJ clearly had very little experience in front of an audience, and his presentation was terribly designed. A waste of both my time and money.

I'd really like to attend if there are any cancellations. I'm at another event at the Hilton now. What room will this event be held in?

Great topic, and looking forward to meeting potential collaborators for a NYC-related mobile data project I'm pondering. See you there!
