Double Feature! MinnPost News Apps and Kickstarter Crowd-funded Journalism

MinnPost: News Apps

Kaeti Hinck, the Director of News Technology at MinnPost will be joining us to talk about their growing focus on news applications. She will share experiences they had moving MinnPost to a new Drupal platform, the challenges with taxonomy structures, and how they are blending reporter needs with software capabilities to deliver a great news web site. She will also talk about the importance of open source in their organization, as well as the growing community of news developers that are changing the way we do journalism.

Kickstarter: Bring your Crowd-funded Journalism Idea To Life

We will also explore Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. Kickstarter’s Director of Art Program, Stephanie Pereira, will share some insights on how to structure a project, what kind of rewards work best, and other helpful tips and valuable stats. For inspiration, we will also take a look at some favorite journalism and technology projects: Comix Journalism in Afganistan, Matter, NewsMotion and Speak Out Tunisia to name a few!

Please come join us for beverages, snacks, and plenty of time for Q&A!

I was there to network and to learn about the Kickstarter program. I was very impressed by the people there and the knowledge of the presenters. Thanks for making this available.

It was a good first exposure to HHTC. I had to leave before the Kickstarter presentation ended. I was really there for the Minnpost segment but enjoyed both. I wish the Minnpost segment had been a bit more technical. I had thought it would be more of a "here are the tools we used" presentation, similar in content to the "how we did it" doc that Minnpost recently published on mapping.
