Haitian Food Potluck & Creole Conversation!

Ann manje!  Let's eat!

After a year and a half of successful Creole Conversation Meetups, it's been decided that the biggest thing missing from our regular gatherings is FOOD!

Combine that with our new regular meeting place, Fullsteam Brewery which has tons of seating space and allows outside food, and the result is obvious.

Haitian Food Potlucks WITH Creole Conversation!  Here's how it will work:

With group money up front and the amazing volunteer help of Carline (thank you Carline!) we'll prepare griot and banane peze.  A $5 suggested donation will help us cover the cost.  Obviously this isn't about making any money - we just want to get the group involved in making this happen and keeping it sustainable.

Beyond that, PLEASE DO make and bring any food that you want!  There have been rumors about other good cooks in the group.  Let's make it happen!  Our big potluck last year was amazing with legim, blan manje, diri ak sos pwa, all kinds of good stuff.

As for drinks, we'll be at a brewery!  They've got beer, wine, cider, and non-alcoholic drinks there.

As for Creole games, we'll have something prepared but will keep things loose if the night is going along with enough Creole practice already.  You know, "poze!  relax!"

N'a we!  See you all there!  Kenbe la!

Bonswa Kathia! M telman kontan n'a we demen, wi! No problem at all - you can throw a few dollars in tomorrow, that's how everyone is doing it because we didn't collect anything ahead of time. Blan manje is always great! But most importantly, don't stress! We just want to see you and hang out so just bring yourself if the day gets too busy! We're starting at 6:30pm because people are usually pretty hungry! Haha.

I hope you all are up for some "pikliz piké" with your griot tomorrow! Nicole, this one is just for you since you said the last time that you don't eat things that are too spicy. I thought of you and added a few more, just because. Girl, you might need to stay away from the pikiz. Carlo, Nicole, Kathia, Carolyn, Stephania and Stephanie... I'll have a little surprise for you from last Saturday! Can wait to see all of the old friends and meet some new ones.

My daughter Antonine and I are looking forward to coming. We haven't been able to come before because it's a school night. Antonine is from Haiti and came to the US 4 years ago at the age of 13 and would like to speak some Creole!
