A one-of-a-kind bilingual picture book has just been published! It's called "Janjak & Freda Go To The Iron Market (ale Mache an Fe)".
The book tells the story of two cousins' adventures in Haiti. It is beautifully illustrated and each page is written in English AND Creole!
The author is none other than our friend Elizabeth Turnbull who grew up in Haiti and is now a co-owner of the Old Havana Sandwich Shop where we have often had our Meetups.
On Thurs, June 6 at 6:30pm, Old Havana will open its doors just for us and the book's supporters. Cuban sliders, rice, beans, and plantains from Old Havana will be provided FREE! Beer, wine, and other drinks will be available for purchase.
Come celebrate the book's launch! We'll hear a reading in both English and Creole done by Elizabeth (and maybe US!!). A Creole game will be prepared as always and the winner will get a copy of "Janjak & Freda"! If you don't win, copies will be available to buy and Elizabeth will gladly sign them.
Come out for a fantastic evening of food, friends, Haiti's rich culture, and the next big thing in Creole-English literature! Mesi anpil! N'a we, oke? Kenbe la!!
