Friends of the Houston Public Library 35th Annual Bargain Book Sale

Houston's largest community book sale offers more than 60,000 used books at bargain prices.  All proceeds will benefit the HPL.

Most hardcover books are $2.00.  Most paperback books are $1.00.  Some books are individually priced.  All types of books are available.

Let's gather in the seating area by the Starbucks on the second floor (look for the green tiara).  Please enter the Convention Center through the Exhibit Hall E entrance.  As you looking at the building, this is the entrance on the far right.  Elevators will be to the right.

As a frequent flyer of this Starbucks, I can tell you that if you bring any travel coffee cup, you can request a refill price of 90 cents for regular coffee.  If you have any problem, tell them that the lady with the white coffee cup told you so.  (Yes, that is really how I am known.)

If you are planning to attend the Book Sale but do not intend to join the group, please do not rsvp yes to this event.  It falsely enlarges the number of attendees.

Admission is free and open to the public.

You are encouraged to bring canvas totes or rolling carts.  I have even seen shoppers with rolling luggage in previous years.

BookSaleBag

Souvenir tote bags will be on sale for $5.00.

There is no free parking immediately near the Convention Center.  There is metered parking for a charge around Discovery Green park across the street and on many streets downtown (do not park by the red ones).  There are some surface lots which have drop boxes (cash only in the exact amount), and some surface lots which have attendants (do not give money to an attendant unless they display a photo work badge).  Convention Center garage parking is available for a charge.

There is free street parking on the opposite side of Highway 59 if you are willing to walk under the freeway and around the Convention Center.

Great opportunity for bargains. Hated that I did not get to meet more of the group this time...I had to leave by noon (to go to my book club meeting)!

It ended up that I didn't get there until 4pm. I'm really glad I didn't miss it, though, I loaded up on poetry and mystery novels :)

So are we all going to shop together there? ;)

    March 20, 2013

    • Kathleen C.

The books are arranged by category on long tables so I'm sure when we go downstairs, people will go for the type of books that they want. There's tables for fiction, childrens, how-to, business, cookbooks, etc.

    March 11, 2013

    • Kathleen C.

The group is only going Saturday because we are going to the BCAF on Sunday. If anyone would like to go with Stephanie on Sunday please reply to her. Sunday is bag day.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
