RAIN OR HIGH LIKELIHOOD OF RAIN CANCELS

This is not a beginner ride - you must have substantial experience riding in traffic and on lots of hills to do the ride, the Morgan Territoy climb is an 8 miile climb, the Mt. Diablo climb is an 11 mile climb. We will do  *some* waiting at re-group points, but please be able to sustain the advertised pace and have plenty of climbing experience. On the climb and descent, I suggest that people ride their own pace, and we will wait a reasonable time for re-groups at the tops and bottoms of climbs.

If you need a route sheet, please pring your own and brling it. Route can be found here(note rwgps routinely overstates climbing by 20-30%):

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2223291

I have updated the route sheet with regroups, we will have a group of riders from WAV joining us as well. Please review the route sheets -- I will bring enough for everyone in a "friendly format" (not the rwgps standard format). We will ride as a group up to mile 12.9 the Morgan Territory turn off, then the asecnding/descending starts at which point everyone needs to ride at their pace, however,  we will regroup at all the regroup spots on the route sheet. This is a fairly way out of town ride and I want to make sure we are all good and accounted for. As far as restroom / water stops there is restoom and water at miles 22.4, 48,2, 52.6, 57.1. The visitor center at 48.2 has very limited snacks so plan your hydration and fuel accordingly.

As usual helmets are required, as well as any hydration and nutrition you may need for the ride.

Also, I know some of you like taking the train up to Martinez, if you want to do that that is fine, but make sure you are at the ride start at the advertised time.

Great fun until the last few miles of the Diablo climb. Started fading just before the ranger station, had to stop and eat. Resumed climbing, felt like @#$ and got a headache that thankfully disappeared on the Summit Wall climb. Video of the failed smoke-out attempt by the idiot in the Dodge Ram is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=... Video of Morgan Territory climb is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=... Video of me running out of gas and cramping up at the Diablo summit sign is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=... Thank you to all the riders that encouraged me on the last part of the Summit Wall, and thank you to the rider who helped me hold my bike when both my legs cramped up at the summit sign.

What an incredible beautiful ride! It's so fun riding with HW's and WAV....Good seeing you men for a change. Thanks Javier and all for regrouping. Rolling neon green hillside of Mount Territory was incredible and the view climbing Mt. Diablo was out of sight. Great challenge.

Diablo was certainly a challenge after MT and 40+ miles. Perfect weather, loved the scenery - everything so green at this time of year. The manzanita in bloom and the smell of the chaparral going up Diablo. A most enjoyable day spent in good company.

So glad I saw Lisa's post on Facebook. Stewart and I were planning on riding Mt Diablo this weekend anyhow. Just sorry we had to split off early. We have too much to do at home. Hope you all had a good ride.

Great ride today, Javier. My legs weren't quite in shape for that much climbing, but now they are in better shape.

Tough call, but I'm out. Gonna keep it local.

Hey, just a heads up. I've been hearing a lot of reports from local riders there that cars are recklessly passing cyclists on the way up. They're going into the other lane even on blind corners. Be super careful descending! Be alert for a car coming up, in your lane.

    1 · March 15

    • Javier Arroyo

So basically the usual? ...yea I descend stuff like this waaayyy slower than I need to for this reason!!

      1 · March 15

    • JoelS

Just something to be aware of. The reports I've heard this year have been much more numerous. There was one collision (drivers fault, not cyclist from why I understand) where the cyclist had to be airlifted out. Don't know if he/she survived or not. Be careful out there!

All ..me (and since they're in car with me -- Todd, Joanne & Ben) will be hitting the Mountain Mikes pizza around'ish the block from the ride start after the ride -- what we usually do is figure out who want's in then order a varierty of pizzas (e.g. large combo / large veggie + breadsticks) and split the cost -- everyone orders whatever they want to drink on their own. That being said we'll take a "head count" of who wants in at the ride start to figure out how many pizzas to order. The Mountain Mikes is here in relation to the ride start: http://goo.gl/maps/IhH34 ..I may change the ride start for the 23rd ride to this parking lot after we check it out ...haven't been to this lot yet, the one we are starting at is pretty big and open (as in looks pretty safe to leave cars there while we're riding).

    1 · March 14

    • Lisa S

If I go, I would want to order my own personal pizza because I would probably only eat one slice.

      March 14

    • Javier Arroyo

That's ok, I'll eat the ones you don'e

Thank you Kevin but I have a car full
