C67 - Auburn/Colfax/Iowa Hill/Foresthill Loop

PLEASE SEE UPDATED ROUTE SHEET!  PREVIOUS SHOWED INCORRECT START LOCATION.

Distance: 71, Long, arduous climbs

Climbing: 7,000

Pace: VERY SLOW.  Average will be around 12

Sweep: None needed - I will be last

Route

Wheels rolling: 8:00

This ride will be the usual Auburn to Colfax, Iowa Hill to Foresthill and then back to Auburn.  This route is all climbing for 3-4 hours and then a fast 30 down.  This is about all I can ride these days, so the pace will be much slower than if you have ridden with me in the past.  Be prepared.  For those who need an ego-boost, now is a good opportunity (Charlie).

You must be self sufficient in all regards: bike and fuel.  There will be water and  stops in Colfax (mile 20), Iowa Hill (29)(soda, cigarettes and water only), Sugar Pine (36) (water only) and Foresthill (51) for snacks and short breaks.

Sounds like a great ride, I *probably* could have done this, however I'm in ultra conservative mode after what happened last week, I don't want to push my luck with DR less than 3 weeks away. As an aside, Gil just came up with the best why I was slow excuse ever "I didn't get shelled, I was just pedaling slow to take in the whole experience"

We definitely took it easy by the "normal" standards (still, hard for me and Helen). Sarah and Claire were bored within the first 5 miles and took off. Iowa Hill would have been a strain...

Great tough ride today! Thanks for the B group for waiting for me too and thanks Scott for hosting and hanging back with me!

You bet. Had I not ridden with you, I doubt I would have finished as happy as I was. Sorry I missed you at the end.

I hope you all had as much fun as I did. Thanks to group B for waiting for me. It was a gorgeous day & ride. Sarah and Claire, great to see you but I doubt anytime in this decade will I be riding with you at your pace.

I have no soft tissue injury pain/soreness, but I do have the day after 79 miles when it's been 10 days since I rode soreness ...gonna just kick back, rest, and make some money working on some stuff my former employer would like to me to work on.

we will most likely divide into 2 or even 3 groups based on riding level...

I will do the short cut... Which may be just to Colfax or if it is a good day, the river and back.

I might be a few minutes late so start without me if I'm not there. I'm going to do a couple hill repeats on Old Foresthill road prior to the start of this ride.

Naw, once we get past Iowa Hill, it is very nice in the trees and we climb high-enough to stay cool. The bake-fest will be when we do the last climb to Auburn.

Good catch Jav, I just re-posted the route - the other one had incorrect start, also, so now the mileage is 67, not 71. New route: http://ridewithgps.co.... Same climbing ;)

LOL! Check out that estimated speed average. I will not be over that for the ride.

Ah damn, I'd love to go, however I'm still leary of my injured hami/IT band whatever it was, feels good now, but I'm gonna setup a more local (to me) ride on Saturday with optional bailouts and that Kallie can come SAG me if I end up having issues.

    • Scott T.

Jav, if you feel up to it, come on out. Pace will be very slow, so the only real challenge will be Iowa Hill as far as IT band loading. You could get someone in a pickup to take you to the top of that ;)
