B77 The not so Casual Turkey Burn Training Ride

Terrain: A little of everything

Distance: 77 miles

Climbing: Approx 5,000 ft

Speed: 16-18 total average

Rider Level: Intermediate

Sweep: No, will wait at tops of major climbs and designated rest stops. Will assist if there are mechanicals.  Always a good idea to bring a cue sheet.e+

SAG: No

Route:http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1924966

Like me, you most likely eaten too much on Turkey Day.  I always go back for thirds and eat at least two slices of pie. Not to worry, you'll burn more than you consumed on this ride.

This route was created as an intermediate to advanced training ride. Other levels are welcome but you may be dropped if you cannot maintain the posted speed.  Therefore it is highly recommended that you print a cue sheet and bring it with you. We will be riding at a near continuous pace.  Slower on climbs. We will only stop at top of major climbs, descents, designated rest stops, and for mechanicals. Stop times will remain reasonable in order to return back at a reasonable time. My predicted return time is 2:30.

This route joins some of the more popular and beautiful roads in the area. We will start off with the rollers on Scott Rd followed by some flats all the way to Ione.  After a short break at the country club, we retrace ourselves back to Irish Hill.  Its a stair stepper type climb.  As we make ourselves north into Eldorado Hills, we ride through the Cothrin Ranch area and Broadstone.  Our return to Folsom is then rewarded by climbing Wilson and Montridge.

Note! Helmet and other necessary bike repair equipment are required. Bring snacks, 2 water bottles, electrolyte, money for lunch, etc.

great ride with a good group of riders. Good pace, had my legs burning a bit! Thanks Kane for leading this ride. Probably did you some good to get out of the house. Give your puppy a hug for me!

I really enjoyed riding with everyone today. I am calling it "Kane's wild ride". Thanks for putting this together! We were back at the cars at the time you predicted. Great call, great group, great pace.

Great ride today. I was very happy with the pace. I set my Garmin virtual buddy to 16 mph and we finished with an average of 16.6 and arrive at the parking lot at almost the exact predicted finish time. Props goes to all those who attended (Dan, Doug, and Scott). These riders were strong both on the roller and the hills. Kicked my butt up Summer Creek Rd. Dan's bonus hill was at least 20%. I didn't have enough energy to look at my Garmin. It was definitely a wall of a climb. Here's the stats from my Garmin. http://connect.garmin.com/activ...

Will there be a mid way (or approximate) stop for snacks?

I hope more folks sign up because I hate being the sweeper...riding alone in yeti/bigfoot land. Lol

It's the Latrobe fear factor combined with the late season long rides combined with the holidays. I hope some more adventurous hammerheads will join us as we come closer to that time. Starting location is in their backyards.

I think its best to call the route good before this turns into an epic level ride. There's plenty of future epic rides. All future changes to this route will be for correction purposes. No more additional mile and climbs added.

Couldn't make heads or tails with 862078. I changed the route to include Summer Creek. It looks like another knee aching climb:) As memory serves Hefrinn is a dead end into a private community and Thunder Ln is gravel. Cothrin should be ok. Nevertheless, please see if my guess is to your liking.

Kane, you got it! To spice it up a bit, after climbing Summer Creek, turn R @ Saddlehorn, R @ Grazing Hill, and then back to your original route.

Done. The route just grew another mile and 600 ft of elevation gain.

Sorry Dan. I didn't get the e-mail because of my meetup settings. Can you please provide link here? @Fong, I have nothing better to do other than to plan routes :) I need one more ass kicker route for my series of "Saturday Hills Extreme". Any suggestions? Looking for a route that is near or more than 100 ft/mile. Bayne???

Kane, I sent you an email about the routing through Cothrin Ranch. Please change it since the road you picked is partially gravel. Summer Creek Rd is my suggestion........a good climb.

I was going to post one for this day too. But you beat me to it. Hopefully I don't have any guest from out of town that weekend.
