C52 - Rocklin Newcastle Loomis Loop

Come join Tracy and I as we start our early season distance riding to prepare for a few double centuries later this spring.  The pace will be a realistic speed 16 to 20mph on the flat and your own pace up whatever hills are along the route.  We'll plan two regroups at Trailhead and at The Flower Farm.  Both stops will have food and bathrooms available.

Route slip is available at the following link:

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2022506

Please note that the ride will not be swept, helmets are required yatta yatta yatta.  Ride starts promptly at 9:30 if you are late you get to play catch up.

Rain, serious threat of hurricane like conditions and any winter storms with a first name will cancel ride.

Both Matthew and I ended up modifying our routes, but for different reasons. Mine was the usual can't keep up problem. Matthew suffered a blowout on the English Colony Road descent when his chain came off over a bump, locking up the rear wheel & destroying the tire. We ended up riding to Trailhead & visiting his mother, who fed us well ;) Climbed Whitney Blvd & Park Drive, which made up for the shortened route. End result 40 miles, 2,146' climbing: http://app.strava.com/activitie.... Our cameras were recording, so here's Matthew's footage of his blowout, the more interesting parts of the repair/conversation, & our ride to Trailhead Bike Shop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.... Here's my footage with less repairs & more of the ride to Trailhead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=.... Here's my climb up Whitney & the climb & descent of Park Drive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

That is a strange deal. Nice bike handling. Great to hear so many riders asking if you need help. Nice vid of the incident too.

I'm glad he didn't crash either. Poor Matthew has had the worst luck with bikes lately :( This incident is why my singlespeed shall remain a freewheel ;) I'm not putting a fixed gear on the other side of the hub.

Hey I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to the ride today. Tracy and I had a blast riding with the group. I hope you all enjoyed the route.

Thanks for posting this ride Tim, I didn't ride with you guys much but I plan on it soon. Please post similar rides as you get ready for your doubles. Plenty of us like the pace you go. It's about base.

Thanks for leading this ride. This was my fist time with this group and I enjoyed the ride. The holidays and lack of riding had me hurtin by the end, so I cut out at Del Mar, since my legs were slowin down, and I still had to climb up Park to get home. Looking forward to future rides and working up to the Centuries I signed up for this Spring.

Convenient start point, close enough for many to ride to and very close to some of the greatest rural riding routes in Northern California. Thanks TIM for organizing, I'll ride with you anytime.

Awesome people, and a great challenging ride. I must say I was a little ambitious making this my first ride ever. But I made it in record time.......LOL, the slowest record, that is. I look forward to participating in more rides with the group. Thanks to all.

Frank it was great meeting you and I hope we can ride together again soon. I think you need to invest in some leg and arm warmers though. You looked really cold.

It was new for me to hit Sierra College comming the other way from Hwy 193, so that was good. Indian Hill is always fun too.

How long do you anticipate the stops at trailhead and flowerfarm? If they are gonna be awhile I may rabbit trail.

I'm bringing Matthew to this ride, but I'll do my own route if the pace is too high.

    • Tim B.

Phoebe that is fine. There are some ways to cut mileage off so you are near the route

      January 5, 2013

  • Alan

Tim, I will find you guys in Newcastle and do the loop from there. Be good to ride with you again.

Sounds good. We'll be on the tandem and most likely just doing a long steady ride.

It looks like we'll have a big turn out if possible can you print out your own route sheets? If you cannot let me know. I'll print out a few just in case.
