This is a relatively easy hike with no major inclines, but it is about 8 miles round trip. It is easy to turn around at any point in the hike if you feel it will be too long. The trailhead is at the west end of Altadena Drive behind the guard rail. The beginning of the hike is along a narrow, paved road used by pedestrians, horses, dogs, bicycles and local residents. Eventually it becomes a single track dirt path. There are several stream crossings, but we should be able to “rock hop” across. Our destination is about 4 miles up stream to the debris dam. We will find a place to have a short snack/lunch break before heading back.

This is a nice hike and easy to get to. It is a little long, but not a lot of elevation gain.

Directions to the trailhead:From the San Fernando Valley take the 134 freeway east to the 210 WEST (yes west - toward the San Fernando Valley) and exit at Lincoln Ave. From Pasadena and points east, take the 210 freeway west and exit Lincoln Ave. Turn right to Altadena Dr. (about 1.5 miles). Turn Left on Altadena Dr. and go to the end. Park anywhere where permitted - please be considerate of the neighborhood. Alternate route is exit the 210 at Fair Oaks or Lake and take either about 3 miles north to Altadena Dr. – turn left and go to the end of the road. Any questions about this hike, please contact me at [masked]

What to bring: Ample water and a snack or sandwich for the break. Other suggestions are sunscreen, insect repellent,  and comfortable shoes

It was a nice hike...clear sky with nice breeze coming from water. There were shades even though some trees reminded us the fire several years ago. We saw flowers, bugs, woodpeckers (red head?) and yes, ducks were cute. It was nice to see Lee and Dennis again and nice to meet people from Early Bird. Thank you Lee to lead another lovely hike~ Looking forward to see you again.:-)

Good hike - nice sized group (We had 8 Early Bird Hikers join us.)It was great to see Reiko and Dennis again and meeting all the Early Bird hikers. The weather was perfect, there was a fair amount of water coming over the dam and in the stream and we got to see a pair of Mallard ducks on the way back.
