Eagle Rock - Topanga State Park from Reseda Blvd.

There are several ways to get to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park (not the one between Glendale and Pasadena) - this hike begins at the very southern end of Reseda Blvd. This is a "low moderate" hike of about 8 miles with a total elevation gain of about 1100 ft. This hike is cross-posted with Early Bird Hiking. If you are a member of both Meetup Groups - please RSVP on only one.

Directions: Take the Ventura Freeway (101) to Reseda Blvd. (west from the 405 or east from Topanga) Follow Reseda Blvd. south 3.5 miles to Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park at the very southern end of Reseda Blvd. ( When exiting the freeway, you will cross Ventura Blvd almost immediately - if you don't you turned the wrong direction). Winford Dr. & Reseda Blvd is just north of the park for those using GPS to get there.  This is a state park, so I believe there is a restriction on dogs. There are pit toilets near the trailhead. The fee for parking within the park boundaries is $5, but you can park on Reseda Blvd. before the white line and walk up. If you choose this option, please allow extra time. There is a loop road in the park - we will meet at the top of the loop at 9:00AM Saturday morning. Please ensure you are hiking with Happy Hour Backpacking and Early Bird Hiking.

The Hike: We will take Temescal Fire Road (Fire Road #30) about 2.5 miles just past Hub Junction to some very unique and picturesque rock formations. This section of the trail is also known as the Lemming Trail. We will then return to Hub Junction and head west on the upper portion of the Eagle Springs Loop for about 1 mile to Eagle rock where we can take a snack/lunch break and admire the view. From here we backtrack a bit to the Garapito Trail which we will take down to Garapito Creek bed and follow it back up to Fire Road # 30 (about 2.5 miles) returning on the fire road about 1 mile to the parking area.

What to bring:  Ample water, sunscreen, comfortable walking or hiking shoes, snacks or sandwich for the break. There are porta-potties at The Hub, but no water.

Questions: You may e-mail me at [masked] with any questions regarding this hike. I may have some carpool space from Pasadena/Altadena area or Universal City Red Line Station.

Nice hike - small but fun group. Nice meeting Tracey, Tammy and Brad - good to see Dominique and Rebecca again. I really enjoyed the great company! It was a little on the cool side, but once we started moving, the chilly temperatures were barely noticable. It was clear, so we had some great views.
