Harry Potter-inspired cooking party

We will be making a meal of recipes from the Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook. I insist on treacle tart, but otherwise, things are very much up in the air. Let's start the conversation in the comments about what we should have!

The Amazon page for the book has a Look Inside for the book, if you'd like to check it out.

Also: I will have made the chocolate frogs in advance to bring to the event. :D

Alright, the only ingredient that is not yet covered is the breadcrumbs. If everybody else could please bring drinks and/or snacks for during the day, while we're cooking, that would be great!

I'll pick up something when I get the spuds this morning.

      February 9, 2013

I'll bring the breadcrumbs we have as well, just as backup. :)

Um, I just realized the time for this event is waaay earlier than I thought. I will be there from 12 to about 2ish, leave, and then be back again around 5 as I've already accepted to be part of another event! Aaaah, my bad. But I will be there! With three eggs! ;)

Make sure you check the Facebook for the shopping list, since you weren't on the guestlist when the email went out. http://www.facebook.c...

Would it be okay to bring a friend from work with me? She is an avid Harry Potter fan, and would love to attend!

How does this work? Do we each bring an ingredient?
Or a recipe? Or a spell:) Jim

Rats. I may only be able to stay for an hour or so: I have my kids that weekend, and my ex is not as flexible that day.

Okay, I really dislike meetup as a platform for group discussions, so I've revived the Edmonton Harry Potter Club Facebook group. If I somehow missed adding you, please join!

Also also also... Pumpkin pasties and Dobby's French Onion Soup would be delicious. :)

What is required for the apricot cake filling? I have homemade apricot jam I could bring.... :)

    Rose? Rose?

You have my expertise in whatever capacity you need it. Also, I think it would be helpful if you either posted a planned menu for the event, or made a survey for everyone to be able to choose the menu, based on the possible/practical book choices.

    1 · January 12, 2013

  • Mark

I've made pie crust too, but I'm sure Rose's is flakier. :-)

    January 12, 2013

  • Maria

Hey Ross? We may need your expertise when it comes to pie crusts.... ;)

    January 12, 2013

  • Mark

Maria kindly let me examine her copy of the cookbook today, and my suggestions are:
    *chicken and mushroom pies
    *steak and potato pies
*treacle tart (note that these three all use pie crust)
*citrus sandwich cake with apricot filling (instead of mango - for Maria)

Should we each bring the ingredients of a recipe we'd like to try our hands at, or go as a group to buy the ingredients once we meet up? :)

    January 6, 2013

    • Maria

I've heard that sending part of the group on a grocery run, while the rest of the group begins whatever prep work can be done with the items already on hand. Ali and I will discuss what supplies should be laid in in advance.

I'm...I'm actually in town. You bet I'll be there, and I'll try and shut up and let others play instead of taking over. I have been known to do that for culinary type events.
