There's No Crying In WordPress

Let’s Dig Into Wordpress! We’ll start with the fundamentals of what Wordpress is, Who created it, How’s it work, What’s it cost and How do we get it?  Get to know .com options versus .org to be familiar enough to choose which route is best for your project.  Get a taste of each option and how it all works under the hood.  You may be taking a bit of notes, because we’ll also give the adventurous a lil to chew on in the realm of how to secure, update, and even extend their Wordpress site.  This is not your mom’s blogging platform… and we certainly don’t stop at just blogging.  Let’s talk about building shops and managing customers, creating communities, sharing and promoting our media and helping us gain mobile reach.

Presenter: Grace Solivan from bitofgrace.com

"Remember: There’s no crying in Wordpress!  Feel free to come with intro-level questions, or post a question before the meet up and I’ll plan on tending to it."

-Grace

And, as usual after the event, the group is invited to Tapas for drinks/food/conversation.

Hey everyone, another great reason to link your self hosted WP site to Jetpack! : Email from Matt Mullenweg of Automattic/WordPress just now:
"I'm excited to announce that Automattic has acquired BruteProtect, a plugin and service that protects your sites from malicious logins, saves server resources so your site runs faster, and keeps all your sites on the latest and greatest versions of WordPress core, plugins, and themes.
The plugin and service are currently available, but over the coming months we’re going to build their functionality into Jetpack and retire BruteProtect as a standalone thing.
BruteProtect also has a premium service that starts at $5 a month per site — effective immediately, that will be free for every BruteProtect user and Jetpack-enabled site. If you’re already a BruteProtect subscriber we’ll be in touch soon to send you a surprise thank you for your early support..."

Great presentation! I want to make a portfolio site and Wordpress seems like it work well. I appreciated the information about companion services that work well with Wordpress. Thank You!

Thank you so much! This was my first time attending anything with this group, and I'm glad I went. I've been using WP for several years but not to its full capabilities, so this was *very* useful for both showing me exactly what more I can do with it and making some of the .org options much less intimidating. Thank you again, and I look forward to being able to join you all at Tapas afterwards at some point in the future!

Grace gave an excellent presentation and introduction to Word Press, .com and .org. Extremely knowledgeable, she was also very thorough, touching upon so many aspects and features that anyone would be more than adequately empowered to jump right in. Not one tear fell in the room. ;) Thank you, Grace and Scott.

One of the best presentations I've seen in a long time. I got to learn so much more than Wordpress today. ☺

I appreciated the security measures and intros to useful plugins that weren't around when I was using WordPress two years ago.

I've been to a meetup where Grace presented and she has a very deep understanding of wordpress. I recommend everyone to go and benefit from this opportunity. Good luck!
