20 Feet From Stardom - MCC Movies on Main

The backup singer exists in a strange place in the pop music world; they are always in the shadow of the feature artists even when they are in front of them in concert while they provide a vital foundation for the music. Through interviews with veterans and concert footage, the history of these predominately African-American singers is explored through the rock era. Darlene Love. 91 mins. Documentary. Rated PG-13

Thanks to everyone who attended Friday's film. I forgot to mention that Mick Jagger is reportedly trying to get 20 Feet from Stardom turned into a one hour television series featuring current back-up singers. He is also trying to get it produced as a Broadway musical with Darlene Love and Lisa Fischer. Thought this was an interesting post-discussion point. See you at the movies!

Soooo bummed I missed this ... I was all set to go, but clearly cannot read and went to the MCC campus. D'Oh! There I was at an empty auditorium. Glad everyone enjoyed it -- it's up for an Oscar. Drats!!

Very good film. Not simple at all, a lot of complex relationships, desires and ambitions. Great appearances by some big big stars. and not expecting it, great great music.
