Hatchery opens its doors to a fast paced New York style pitch event.

Hatchery style honesty. In ways others may be too polite to share. It will be what you need to hear about your startup covering marketing, finance, technology, business, presentation.....

This has been the Hatchery Dry Run process initiated to all Hatchery companies chosen for the main event. We are opening to everyone.

Review committee:
David Blumenstein - Managing Partner, Hatchery
Martin Breslin - Managing Partner, Hatchery
Jay Levy - Principal, Zelkova Ventures
Jason Olim - CoFounder, The Freshman Fund

What's the point?
1. A chance to pitch at the main event
2. Pitching practice
3. Honest feedback about your company

How it works:
1. RSVP to attend

2. If you would like to pitch, send materials in advance to: [masked]
- we need powerpoint and executive summary
- deadline is 1 week before the event
- file naming: company name (1 word), underscore, deck or summary
ex. hatchery_deck.ppt, hatchery_summary.doc
- put both documents in 1 email. do not send separately.

3. Day of the event, sign up at the desk for the order. It is first come, first serve. We are taking the first 8.

4. We are not waiting for the guests to arrive. Doors open at 6pm. It starts at 6:30pm-8:30pm.

5. It will be FAST!

6. There is no Q&A. We can talk after the event.

Format:
5 minute entrepreneur pitch
5 minute panel critique
booze

The Powerpoint:
Please include all these things in your slides.
1. your team
2. what your product/service does
3. what issue/pain is it looking to solve/address
4. what is the solution
5. what is the addressable market
6. what is the competitive landscape
7. any current customer/client/pilot pipeline
8. what is the revenue stream/source
9. what are your financial projections
10. how much are you looking for in investment
11. what will you do with the money, how will it be spent

Entrepreneurs who take this seriously will absolutely benefit.

Oh, and the booze should make this more interesting?

Interesting people, interesting projects presented; the "Jury" was a bit weak; Not so much spoken about ideas itself, that was a pity. I found the whole setting a bit intimidating. If it was purely meant as a pitch training, it was good; if it was intended as an occasion to inspire and foster exchange, it was not so good. Thanks for organizing though!!!!!!!!!
    •  Great structure and an awesome opportunity for the presenters. The panel was top notch!
    •  sound and layout could bre improved
    •  I want to thank Yao for the opportunity to present ProCompare.com and to Martin, David, and Jason for their feedback. Overall, the event was very well organized and attended. As a comment, I believe that the objective of covering all aspects of the business plan (11 subjects per the event guidelines) in just a 5 minutes pitch is unrealistic and frankly not needed. A realistic objective for such a short pitch should be to convey the key messages and create enough interest so that a potential investor, partner or buyer, will be intigued to take it to the next level (tipically, another meeting). Also, it would be helpful if panelist differntiated between feedback on the pitch itself (content, style) and comments on the business in general. •  very good overall. the presenters should be castized for not following the recommended format and the panel should be given more time to critique.
    •  Great panel. Made great suggestions. Here is one suggestion to improve the Meetup: as a conclusion of the meeting, and since most of the attendees are entrepreneurs, I would ask each person from the panel to provide with their top 3 advises. I believe it would add value to everyone in the room. Thank you for putting it together. SP
    •  Informative, interesting event. Event moved along at a brisk pace and the panelists raised valid questions and issues with the presenters. Most importantly, they did so in a diplomatic and helpful manner. It's easy to be curt or to make fun of an entrepreneur still formulating and refining their business pitch. This particular event was handled in an intelligent, fiar and even-handed manner. One request tho - the hostess did not make clear in her presentation the relationship between herself, the Hatchery and Sun Microsystems. Is she a Sun employee with an interest in reaching out to the entrepreneur community in New York? Knowing everyone's affiliations and angles - not just the panelists - would be helpful. It would also be nice if the screen showed the names of the panelists and companies so that as everyone comes in, they can see the names and correct spelling of the participants for that particular event.
