The Hatchery opens its doors to a fast paced New York style pitch event.

Hatchery style honesty. In ways others may be too polite to share. It's what you need to hear about your startup, covering marketing, finance, technology, business, presentation, and more.

Presenters:

What's the point?

1. Pitching practice
2. Honest feedback about your company

How it works:

1. RSVP to attend

2. We accept pitches on a rolling basis and select five companies to pitch at each AYS event. We strongly advise that you attend an event prior to submitting your pitch

3. If you would like to pitch, send materials in advance to: [masked]
- we need PowerPoint and executive summary
- deadline is 1 week before the event
- file naming: company name (1 word), underscore, deck or summary
ex. hatchery_deck.ppt, hatchery_summary.doc
- put both documents in 1 email, do not send separately

4. We will not wait for the guests to arrive. Doors open at 6pm. The event begins  at 6:30pm and ends at 8:30pm.

5. It will be FAST!

6. There is no Q&A. We can talk after the event.

Format:
5 minute entrepreneur pitch
5 minute panel critique

The Powerpoint:
Please address all of these eleven points in your slides:
1. your team
2. what your product/service does
3. what issue/pain is it looking to solve/address
4. what is the solution
5. what is the addressable market
6. what is the competitive landscape
7. any current customer/client/pilot pipeline
8. what is the revenue stream/source
9. what are your financial projections
10. how much are you looking for in investment
11. what will you do with the money, how will it be spent

Entrepreneurs who take this seriously will absolutely benefit.

Advance tickets $10; Day of $20; At door $20

What people have said:

I have only attended 4 Hatchery events thus far but all have been top notch.

— Fred Kauber

Last night "Are You Serious?" event proved to be of outmost importance for our new venture: pricing model, competition, market segments - the panel addressed all of these and helped us to clarify our strategies. Many thanks to Yao for bringing in VCs who are on top of their game to critique us last night!

— Olga Bukur

The Hatchery is a 'must go' for up and coming entrepreneurs. Yao Huang has a wealth of information and knows everyone in the start-up community. Don't hesitate to reach out to her or better yet, keep attending The Hatchery. I know I will.

— Paula Schafer

Great targeted information presented with humor and great energy.

— Gadge Brown

Terrific. Providing great learning opportunities as well as a chance to meet others in similar situations who may be able to assist one another

— anne bonfiglio

One of the best groups in NYC!

— Umit D. Sami

The Hatchery event was a fantastic forum for new ideas and constructive criticism. I felt like I was watching American Idol, except the stars were founders with fresh ideas and slick slide decks instead of warbling vocals. All the judges played Simon, delivering hard-hitting and incisive feedback about the presenter's product and pitch. Time was of the essence and those onstage had five minutes exactly to communicate their concept in a meaningful way before the judges. Five minutes of critiquing followed, and frequently resulted in 'Aha' moments in the crowd. The event was well attended, with startup founders comprising roughly half of the hundred odd heads in the room. Overall, I had a great time, learned a lot about the art of pitching, and would definitely come back!

— Laura Yue Bai

Attending Hatchery are a great thing for anyone involved in NY's tech community.

— Brian McClain

My first event, but with that being said it was a very nice mix of a professional event and social gathering - well organized, and thoughtfully put together - A+

— Attila Sary

This event is a great place to learn, prepare and even debate your business idea/model and see if it is viable for funding.

— Domenick Cilea

I thought the group was an energizing group of like minded people that I think can and do help each other in the common pursuit of building businesses and companies, I look forward to getting to know more people.

— Kevin Brown

Very good. I was pleasantly surprised by the attendance and amount of entrepreneurs. Great group.

— Adrian

The 'Are You Serious' event is the perfect environment for entrepreneurs to practice their pitch and get valuable feedback, even make some significant connections. But remember, there are serious individuals in the audience, so don't use it as your first opportunity to practice, prepare well in advance, making sure to incorporate feedback from experts. Having a presentation that is professional and well thought out will make a significant difference in terms of how potential investors and business partners perceive you in the audience. And done well, you can walk away with some great connections, we certainly did.

— Darlene Newman

This is the best meetup group in NYC for serious entrepreneurs. They always have great venues and good networking opportunities.

— Andrew Ward

A great way to network and meet other like minded individuals.
