Lafayette-Moraga Reg. Trail. Hi Hikers; after scouting the route, I decided to change the trail head
starting location given in the schedule. We will NOT start at Valle
Vista Staging Area. Instead, we will start on the trail in Moraga
Commons city park at the junction of Moraga Rd. (the extension of Canyon
Rd.) and St. Mary's Rd. The entrance to the parking lot is on St. Mary's
Rd. about 50 yards from the traffic light. If you wish to meet us there,
we expect to depart about 9:00 AM. From the north, take Moraga Rd. from
Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette to St. Mary's Rd. From Redwood Rd., take
Pinehurst Rd., then L. on Canyon Rd. (which changes to Moraga Rd.) to St.
Mary's Rd.; turn onto St. Mary's Rd. at traffic light.
The hike is easy with a woodsy feel, on nearly flat black top
paving, about 6 miles out and back, about 2/3 wooded, 1/3 in brushy
vegetation. We will take a short side excursion on Bolinger Canyon Rd.
to view an unusual and interesting geological formation along the road.
No muddy shoes even if it rains the day before (very unlikely), but
steady rain cancels. We meet for car pooling at C. V. High School,
departing at 8:30 am.
