HBase Meetup at Twitter in San Francisco

Here are the talks we have so far:

Gary Helmling and Chris Trezzo on "HBase @ Twitter"

Arjen Roodselaar of Facebook on "Live extending and migrating multi-PB OLTP workloads"

"At Facebook we are regularly faced with extending the capacity allocated to our HBase clusters, all the way to the point where we need to replicate entire multi-PB datasets between datacentres, with minimal downtime. We found the success of these operations to be determined by our ability to tightly control the consumption of both disk and network bandwidth by the replication process. In this talk we will focus on the tools and the best practices we developed to exercise that control while extending and migrating our HBase clusters serving a demanding OLTP workload."

Jeff Kolesky of OPower on "Entity-centric, mixed-workload HBase at Opower"

Is it possible to bring a bike up. Left my bike outside and a bum took my saddle after 5 min. Had to chase him down the street. Would appreciate a spot

    July 16, 2013

    • Matthew S.

There's a bike cage in back. Took about 15 minutes to get checked in.

Well that's depressing. I'm from NY and I just happened to be in California this week, and was really looking forward to this talk. But I didn't sign up for this until yesterday afternoon's announcement.

Please let us know if this talk will be recorded or if the slides will be posted.

    Last minute notice:

So, just to say that twitter security are strict. If you were not on the list yesterday morning -- if you added yourself after 9AM Monday morning -- then security will not have your name so will not be able to attend.

Otherwise, hope to see you there.

Here is a message from our Twitter hosts:

"Twitter is excited to host the HBase community for their monthly gathering!

If your meetup account does not include your full name, please add it by Monday 7/15 at 9:00am PDT. We will use this to create a list of attendees for security purposes. Also please bring a photo id that matches the name provided on the meetup.

    Directions/Parking:

We're located at 1355 Market St. on the 9th floor in the old SF Furniture Mart. If you're taking BART or Muni, exit at Civic Center and walk up Market St. There are several bus lines (the 6, 71, 21, etc.) that stop right outside of our building. If you're taking Caltrain, get off at the 4th and King station and you can take the Muni 83X shuttle which goes directly to our office. Coming by car? There is plenty of street parking nearby."
