My name is Riley Hearn and I am a 3D animator at Postage VFX. Recently my studio has broken into the indie game development scene and since then have been working hard to refine our approach.
Game development is my life's passion. I have been an avid gamer for as long as i can remember and the only thing i enjoy more than playing games is creating them. Indie game development in its current state allows a small group of artists to create unique, high quality assets on a large scale. I cant think of a place I would rather be.
In my current position I wear many hats. In our most recent games i have created 3D characters from the bottom up including concept, modeling, rigging, texturing, and animation. I would define myself primarily as an animator. Give my a well constructed rig and i'll make it dance for you. I also spend a great deal of time modeling and UV mapping assets for games and architectural visualizations. I was originally trained in LightWave but have since moved on to Maya and Modo as my primary 3D toolset.
I am looking to meet people with the same passion and motivation as myself. I would love to compare notes with fellow artists and learn more about the industry i am becoming involved in. Lancaster county is currently very limited in professional game developers so i need to branch out and meet some new faces.
Where do I begin. I could write a thesis on this question. I have dabbled in almost every form of game and i have found things i like in each of them. Shooter, Halo1. Strategy, Rome Total War. Puzzle, World of Goo. RPG, Diablo2, SWKOTOR, big nerd points if you know what the second one is. Adventure, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Minecraft. I love all games but these are the standouts for me. Truthfully i am in it for the story these days, and when it is backed by great gameplay I'm hooked.
