Providers 2.0 Series: Physicians Weigh In On Health 2.0

This Event is Organized by Dr. Aafia Chaudhry, the Leader of the Providers 2.0 Series.  If you would like to speak, sponsor, or be on a panel at the next event, please reach out to her here.

Update: After Event at The Vault at Pfaff's, 643 Broadway between Bond and Bleeker

I know many of us just returned from HIMSS Conference and were inspired to listen to Cardiologist and researcher Eric Topol, M.D. expound on his vision of the future of medicine - powered by robots, measurement devices, and empowered patients.  To reconcile such visions with the current reality of medical practice requires more than a little imagination, but less every day as we watch Medicine become the change that we have imagined and are helping it become.  This is easy to perceive from the perspective of one who is immersed in the Healthcare Startup scene, but honestly, it is probably not reality compared to how Practicing Physicians, Nurses, and other Care Providers see it.  We started the Providers 2.0 Series in the first place to bring the Providers of care into the conversation, gaining their insight, perspective, and mentorship.

Providers Perspectives 2.0

In this event, we will engage a panel of Physicians and hear from several thought leaders on the topic. Please make sure you answer the questions on registration and submit your questions so we we can pepper the panelists with your questions ahead of time.

The Questions

Part of the popularity of this event is due to the Original write up for this event included Questions for the Panel:

1. Internet 1.0 - How has the availability of online medical information affected your practice?

2. Patient Prosumers - What is your response to the patient who has learned a great deal of information about their possible or actual conditions - when they are right, and when they are wrong?

3. EHRs and Meaningful Use - Have you implemented an EHR and how has it changed the way you practice medicine? Has it affected follow-up or overal patient care? Do you integrate with online PHRs like HealthVault or Google Health?

4. HCR - How has the health care reform bill changed the way you think about the future of medicine?

5. The Future and How You Fit In - Where do you see the evolution of patient care going and how do you intend to be a part of it?

Thank you for your interest in this event.  If you have questions please comment below or email [masked]

I'd love to see a meetup dedicated to working WITH doctors.

Without doctors in the room to discuss the startups you won't get where you need to go. Why? Because doctors need to prescribe medical apps/health20 to their patients. Without prescriptions there is not going to be mass adoption. Once prescribed, we can prove how those apps or health20 changed patients lives, treatments, etc.

In NY & NJ Empowered Doctor is already doing seminars for doctors. I'd love to see one where doctors attend, not just in the panel. Our Physician MBA weekend programs have already been launched.

Perhaps we can even set up doctors on Beta-tests for specific apps as long as the startups will be there to guide them through.

It would also be good to feature some apps that can improve a medical practice.

If these demonstrations could be recorded (like on Medstartr) we can perhaps feature them on EmpoweredDoctor.com, HealthcareMarketingCOE.com and .... EmpoweredPatient.com

If we're going to do this and have more than 3-4 people, we should (1) choose a theme to brainstorm ahead of time and/or (2) organize a hackathon with other likeminded groups and sponsors, a la Startup Weekend,

I am happy to submit a couple of themes based on our Health 2.0 NYC concentrations (Doctors 2.0, Hospitals 2.0, Benefits 2.0, etc.) if it helps.

Alternatively, we could choose a startup in the NYC group that needs a bit of help from our group's diverse expertise - a bunch of us chipping in should help that startup get at least to MVP level, and then post on MedStartr or pitch to one of the many incubators for funding

Great seeing you! Thanks for braving the storm. Love that you came on the supposition that the storm would keep others away and make an opportunity for you to attend, even though regulatory approval could prevent implementation. You are my healthcare startup hero of the night. Great job bringing www.SympleApp.com to the world too!

Great timing on this report by eClinicalWorks, saying how physicians are supporting mHealth, and see it's benefits in the following capabilities:

The ability to send reminders and alerts to patients
The ability to allow patients’ access to their own PHI from mobile devices
The ability to conduct administrative tasks like appointment scheduling
The ability to receive more accurate self-reported data from patients on a regular basis

      February 13

    • Maureen Shaffer

+Alex Fair, how about taking a lead from the #MOOC trend and conduct this as a Google+ hangout with the panelists? That is free to minimal cost--just need quiet rooms and solid audio headsets for panelists and moderator. The AHA did this today with a few hundred people and ~6 panelists: https://plus.google.co... MIT's @medialabcourse at MIT is doing this with 24k people, about 1k people watch the google hangout live: live:https://plus.google.co...

Nathan, it's better and you're in beta but since we've started this....every page should have something about how OneTouch benefits practices, SNFs etc. Many of the pages are general information about practices face, Medicare, readmissions, SNFs but not what OneTouch does for them. Also..where's the passion, your story and the founder/staff bios? Finally the contact page should be more inviting, personal and transparent--email address (even a [masked]) and your business address. Newsletter should be linked on your home page too. Good luck with this!

It never hurts to talk about patient and consumer interaction. To say things are changing constantly is repetitive but true.
