What topic would you like to see discussed at the New York Healthcare Meetups?

I'm interested in new platforms, systems, and tools that improve the understanding and practice of health care in our country.

Tell us about your view and contributions (past, present or future) to healthcare innovation

During the health care reform debate, I was disappointed with the focus on the "public option" and the attention it took away from what I considered to be the more significant establishment of the Health Insurance Exchanges. Understanding that the concept of the exchanges was too abstract, I created a design concept for what they could look like. The White House saw the concept. When the law passed, they asked me to help design the website that was mandated by the law. This site, HealthCare.gov, sorts through billions of health care options to display a simple menu of all available public programs and private plans available to you. We took a very consumer- friendly approach and created a site that feels very much unlike what you'd expect from government.

What is your company and what do they do. What is your role there?

Edward Mullen Studio is my small interactive design practice focusing on creating beautiful, easy-to-use Web-based experiences that meet the needs of a broad range of clients, from large, information-heavy sites to e-commerce and mobile.

What are your goals for joining this group and how can we help you achieve them?

I'm looking for opportunities to help improve the health care ecosystem through design. I'm open to new collaborations and relationships.

Please be welcome to list your company or personal website

Introduction

I designed HealthCare.gov. I was asked to join HHS after the White House saw a concept I created for the Health Insurance Exchanges during the health reform debate. (More about this here: http://ow.ly/1w6z...) I design for a wide range of clients.
