Luminato Opening Night Celebrations

  • June 6, 2008 · 6:45 PM
  • Yonge-Dundas Square

UPDATE Hey Everyone; This should be a fun evening. I will leave my cell on in case you arrive late, since we will be there for awhile. I made the initial meeting time slightly later since the schedule has changed according to Luminato's website. Afterwards we will head over to the The Imperial Pub Tavern (54 Dundas St.) for a beer or two or three ...

Description of the Event: It all begins with a party! The place to be Friday, June 6 is Yonge-Dundas Square, where Luminato's First Night gets you ready for 10 days of dancing in the streets. The Festival kick-off is an all-star concert featuring the Grammy-Award winning world famous Count Basie Orchestra fronted by 14-year-old Canadian jazz sensation Nikki Yanofsky. This prodigious vocal powerhouse blew audiences away at the Montreal Jazz Festival, on the compilation tribute album We All Love Ella, and recently made her triumphant debut at Carnegie Hall. They are joined early evening by the East Coast New World Orchestra performing a spirited celebration of the region's music by 13 of Nova Scotia's finest musicians. SCHEDULE 7:00-8:00 p.m. East Coast New World Orchestra 8:00-9:00 p.m. Swing dance lesson 9:00-11:00 p.m. Count Basie Orchestra Nikki Yanofsky and TELUS Light On Your Feet dancing For more information, refer to the web-link appended below. http://www.luminato.c...

We had a great turnout; I had previously met almost all the Members who came. We watched the 1st performance at the Square then we collectively decided to head to the pub rather than stay for the swing dance lesson. We went back to the Square for the final performances, then we finished the night sharing a variety of dishes at a chinese restaurant. My 2 favourite things about this Event were the music performed at the Square and eating together at the restaurant at the end. A big thank you to Alex - and Nima and Sachin - for organizing and hosting an Event which everyone seemed to really enjoy.

Ok. The Imperial Pub Tavern it is. We will try that and go on from there. Being a friday, it will probably be difficult to make reservations.

So far it looks like The Imperial Pub Tavern may be the best place to go to; The Hard Rock Cafe may be too crowded/noisy.

I'll try to find a place to go to.

The Imperial Pub Tavern (54 Dundas St.) is very close by the square. Passed by the pub many times and noticed they have a decent patio.

Any suggestions on where the group will like to go after Luminato? With 25 people we are going to have to choose a big venue!
