You can control what kinds of emails you receive from your Meetup Group via the edit email and notifications option on each of your group profile pages. The settings will allow you to control how and when you receive mailing list messages, notifications and reminders.

You'll find the same settings for all of group memberships on your Email and Notifications page.

Tips on how to reduce the amount of email you receive from your Meetup Groups:

Change your Meetup email preferences (as described above)
RSVP for events: RSVPing "No" for an event will take you off of the email list for that particular event's reminders.
Filter your emails in your email account:
It would be ideal to print out the directions and apply the steps directly as you read them, or to open another browser window and simultaneously read the instructions from window 1 as you apply them to window 2. Examples of filter rules (red text is a user-created folder):

    • If Subject contains "New Meetup" move message to MU Announcements
    • If Subject contains "Next Week:" move message to MU Reminders
    • If Subject contains "Tomorrow:" move message to MU Reminders
    • If Subject contains "Ratings" move message to MU Ratings
    • If Subject contains "{meetup_group_name}" move message to {meetup_group_name} Meetup
    • If From address contains "[masked]" move message to Meetup
    • If Subject contains "comment" move message to Comments
    • If Subject contains "just said they're going to" move message to RSVP
    • If Subject contains "just changed their status to" move message to RSVP
    • If Subject contains "they're not going" move message to RSVP
Example of filtering mailing list messages to a separate folder:

    • If From address contains "warcraft-153-announce@meetup.com" move message to Warcraft meetup
The above should cover most of your Meetup email bases.

Here's a screenshot of what I currently have (11-2011) in my filter rules.
