If you'd like to *completely* close the Meetup Group, so that no other member can step up to fill the Organizer position, there are some best practices we ask Organizers to consider following first:
- Within your 'Group Settings', on the 'Your members' page, set the Meetup Group so that it's no longer accepting new members in the 'How members join your group' section.
- In 'Basics', change the name to something like 'Closing Down XYZ Meetup Group!'
- Send a message to your membership letting them know what's happening.
If you feel comfortable that you're ready to go, please
send a message to the Meetup Community Team, and we'll take care of finishing the process from here.
NOTE: If you've *already* contacted the Community Team about closing the Group completely, you can send your confirmation by replying directly to the email you received. You don't have to go through the contact form and start over again.
If you don't mind another member of your Meetup Group keeping the Group going, then you could
just step down as Organizer. When you step down, the position will open up for one of your members to assume.
If you'd like step down as Organizer, go to your
Membership & Communications page.
Find the Meetup Group from which you'd like to step down as Organizer, and click the 'Step down as Organizer' link. From there, you can either nominate a new Organizer from the list of the members in your Meetup Group or select the 'Or, don't nominate anyone' option.
Please note, if you nominate a successor, they'll receive an email letting them know of your nomination. Until they follow through with the instructions in that message, you will still be the Organizer.
However, if you step down without nominating any specific member, your name will immediately be removed from the Organizer position on the Meetup Group's left sidebar.
When you are no longer an Organizer of any Meetup Groups, your Organizer Dues will stop renewing automatically. You won't be charged Organizer Dues if you're no longer an Organizer.
If you'd like,
you can cancel the renewal of your Organizer Dues manually anytime. Just click 'Account' in the top right, and choose 'Organizer Dues' from the left column, and click the link to 'Cancel Organizer Dues'.
