Friends, please join us for our first Masters Series Talks:
The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh - The Mind of the Artist in Words, Drawings and Paintings.
Although today considered priceless, Vincent Van Gogh's art was completely disregarded during his lifetime and to great extent so was himself as a person. A man associated by many with the cliche of mad genius, Vincent was a thoughtful, intelligent man who expressed himself eloquently and poingnantly in three languages. We know this through a remarkably complete correspondence between him and his family, especially with his brother Theo. Over seven hundred of his letters survive and they reveal a passionate man who loved nature as well as mankind without reservations. These letters also show a self taught man navigating his struggles as well as his evolution of theoretical principles in his work, from the pencil drawings and watercolors of his early years to masterpieces like Starry Night, The Bedroom and many others.
