Postponed: Lecture, "Lab Bytes Rome: Digital Experiments on Augustan Rome,

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED.

This lecture is in the same vane as the Antichità, Teatro, Magnificenza: Renaissance and Baroque Images of Rome Lecture at the Carlos this past October. The building is magnificent on its own and well worth seeing. Diane Favro, Ph.D. will give the 2014 Academy of Medicine Distinguished Lecture in Architecture and the Classical Tradition. The lecture, "Lab Bytes Rome: Digital Experiments on Augustan Rome," will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at the Historic Academy of Medicine.

Diane Favro's research focuses on Roman architecture and urbanism, and the applications of digital technologies in the arts and humanities. She is director of the UCLA Experiential Technologies Center which has received numerous grants for such projects as Digital Karnak, an award-winning learning platform with expansive aggregated data and interactive geo-temporal models of the Egyptian cultural site, Digital Roman Forum presented by the Mayor of Rome, and most recently, Visualizing Statues which integrates kinetic analysis, text-encoding, and geo-spatial argumentation into an interactive digital publication. She participates in the development of HyperCities, a revolutionary aggregation platform that interrogates the space and time of the physical world with the information web and publishing, and with new Digital Humanities degree programs at UCLA. Most recently Favro is co-recipient of an National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant entitled Digital Cultural Mapping. She served as the president of the Society of Architectural Historians and currently is assistant vice chancellor of research at UCLA.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
