Moderate hike...not suited for novice/first timers...
Lets climb a (small) mountain!! Sugarloaf is an outlier of the Blue Ridge Mountain range and is located about 10 miles south of Frederick, Maryland (it’s somewhat of a neighbor to Catoctin and Cunningham Falls). The route we will be taking is a combination of the Blue Northern Peaks Trail (5 miles of nice scenery) and the White Mountain Loop Trail (2.5 mile trail that loops the summit) for a total of 7 miles (there is some overlap that accounts for the .5 mile discrepancy). At the end there will be the option to continue to the Summit on the Green Trail (only .25 miles). The Green Trail starts at the same location as the Blue Trail so for anyone who isn’t interested in this last segment the parking lot will be right there.
You can view the trail map here: http://www.sugarloafmd.com/images/maps/102709_trailmap.pdf
Parking: we will be meeting in the parking lot at the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain Drive (Blue and Green Trail start here).
This park is free for both entry and parking so no need to bring extra money! Just your lovely selves, water and snacks for yourself if that’s your thing.
Dogs are permitted but must be leashed at all times.
