Announcing a new Meetup for The Baltimore Hiking Meetup Group!
What: Catlett Mountain circuit hike (SNP) and camping add on
When: May 16,[masked]:00 AM
Price: $10.00 per car
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Meetup Description: One of the less traveled hikes in the Shenandoah National Park, the Catlett Mountain circuit is one of the most beautiful hikes in the SNP for fall colors. Starting from the same parking area as Old Rag, leave the crowds behind, as you can do this hike and not see another person on the whole circuit.
This hike is taken from the hikingupward website; read more here: http://www.hikingupward.com/SNP/CatlettMountain/
Note the calore counter helpfully built into the website.
We will meet at the old ragg lower parking lot at 1100. Be aware that there is limited parking( it is a large lot, but it is shared with the (large) Old Ragg crowds; plan accordingly); please arrange carpools. Expect the ride from metro Baltimore to the trailhead to take approximately 2 1/2 hrs. http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=baltimore+md&daddr=38.54164+-78.24460+to%3A38.57036+-78.28705
Note that there will be an $10/car parking fee at the lot, unless one has an SNP parking pass.
Fido is welcome on this hike as long as he/she is well behaved. This will be something of an experiment for me: my dog has never camped before, and I want to see how she does before I try some backpacking later this summer. While she's defintely a people dog, some patience/flexibility may be required.
For those interested: I'm including a camping option. In your RSPV please indicate if you are interested in camping. We'll most likely make reservations at the Matthews Arm campsite inside SNP. Matthew's Arm has a fair amount of flexibility in camping arrangements. I'll have more details on the camping add on once I have an idea how many are interested. If there is additional interest, we can plan group meals as we get closer to the date.
If you RSVP yes, and cannot attend, please change your response to reflect this.
