Announcing a new Meetup for The Baltimore Hiking Meetup Group!
What: North Fork Mountain
When: Friday, January 22,[masked]:00 PM
North Fork Mountain (NFM) Trail
Seneca Rocks, WV 26884
15 mile hike/backpack of the northern section of North Fork Mountain Trail in West Virginia. This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Eastern US, so come join us for a boot stompin' good time! There are numerous cliff views along the trail with Allegheny Front/ Continental Divide immediately to our west and on a clear day you can see the Blue Ridge 50 miles to the East! This is one of those hikes you must do once before you die, so come join us! I only do this one in the winter since there is no water on the mountain and we melt snow for our water! Once you get up the mountain in the first 2 mile, 1800 ft, climb, the trail is relatively level with take your breath away views all along the way. We will camp near Chimney Rocks the first night to get the uphill portion out of the way, then walk across the top on Saturday (about a 10 mile hike) to our camp, then walk straight down the mountain on Sunday to Seneca Rocks before finishing up! Seneca Rocks always takes your breath away, so what a way to end the trip! Weather looks like it will hold up and low temps of about 24, so a "0" degree bag will give you plenty of margin to stay cozy warm or a 15-20 degree bag if you are a warm sleeper! This is the real deal and a trip you will cherish for the rest of your life! I have posted the trip on the Washington Backpacker's Meetup Group as well if you wish to check it out. Please give me a call on my cell at[masked] so we can arrange carpooling and coordinate logistics as a number of people will be leaving from the Washington DC area. Trail reviews can be found on midatlantichikes.com for wv, then click north fork shuttle hike, or thebackpacker.com, then north fork ridge trail in west virginia.
