The Baltimore Hiking Meetup Group Message Board › Potomac River Paddle, Saturday, June 30, 9 AM
For Saturday, the predicted long term weather forecast for our paddle
location will be a very sunny day, with an average temperature of
approximately 85 degrees. The UV Index will be very high. The wind
speed will be slight and negligible.
Please join us on a relaxing kayak trip. We will meet at the
Shepherdstown Boat Ramp in West Virginia this Saturday at 9 AM. All
are welcome. Below are the trip details.
We will meet at the boat ramp parking area at the end of North
Princess Street in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, for a leisurely and
scenic paddle. Please bring plenty of water and a healthy snack.
The current therein is very gentle. We will go up-river for 4 miles,
take a break, and then return down-river for 4 miles, and the trip
should last about four hours. On this beautiful stretch of the
Potomac, one can go for many miles and see nothing but the splendor
Moreover, on this same day the yearly outdoor Shepherdstown Street
Fest is also taking place right by our paddle location, and it goes
on until 9 PM. There will be artists, musicians, artisans, vendors,
food, and drink there, all in a down-home, laid-back atmosphere. We
can leave our boats and cars at the dock, and convenintly stroll over
to the Street Fest right after our paddle.
Here are the directions for the trip's meeting point:
From Frederick, take Rt. 340 West (which will take you from MD
through VA for a spell and finally into WV over the Potomac and the
Shenandoah Rivers), then turn right at Rt. 230, then go over
Rattlesnake Run Creek into Shepherdstown, then turn right on North
Princess Street, and go until it ends. You are on the city-owned
public boat ramp. Stop before you get to the water. Godspeed.
