CAMP Yosemite Tuolumne Meadows

  • Jul 17, 2013 · 8:00 AM

Hello Yosemite Campers,

Our group has dwindled a bit, but this trip is a GO! Be sure to check the camp bulletin board for our site numbers.

Gaylor Lakes tomorrow is a short hike near our campground. We plan to leave from the campsite around 2pm.

Thursday's Mount Dana is difficult, but I have information for anyone who wants to join us. If you don't want to do it with us, there are several other awesome choices. Just let me know if you'd like a recommendation.

Lembert Dome for Friday is close and easy. Bert and I will do it after packing up and before heading home.

Let us know if you'd like to join us on any of these hikes. Otherwise you're on your own for plans.

This is set-up as either a Wed/Thur OR a Fri/Sat trip. I am charging the Fri/Sat folks in advance and the Wed/Thur folks will pay when we capture our walk-up sites. IF BY CHANCE we fail at securing our desired sites, we will let you know by Wednesday evening.

For example, if we get 10 persons for Wed/Thurs and 20 for Fri/Sat, we would have to reserve a minimum of four sites (six people, two cars maximum per site). So 10 people would split the cost of four sites for Wed/Thurs to save them for the Fri/Sat folks. That's why this trip costs more than usual. IF YOU WANT TO GO WED/THURS PLEASE DO NOT PAY HERE. Email me and I will add your RSVP. We will pay when we get there on Wed.

Tuolumne Meadows is 45 minutes up Tioga Pass Road.
Hikes planned should be in this area as Yosemite Valley is 1.5 hours away.

Proposed Itinerary:
Wednesday - Gaylor Lakes
Thursday - Mount Dana
Friday - Lembert Dome (easy)
Other people, like Mary, will plan other hikes
Tioga Pass hikes link:

Enter the park from Stockton Hwy 120.
LEFT to continue on on Hwy 120 aka Toga Pass Road.
Tuolumne Meadows is about 45 minutes up Tioga Pass Road on the south (right) side of the road.
We will leave our campsite numbers on the MESSAGE BOARD near the entrance.

Hi Susan, the trail wasn't as hard to find and follow as it said in the write ups, we didn't have any problems following it. It was a little windy at the top, and there was a thunderstorm later as we were half way down, a little scary. Have a great time, the views are amazing!

I haven't been there in many years and it was really nice to be back. Great hikes and company. Thanks Shannon.

Had a great time catching up with friends old and new. Scenery is gorgeous, of course, I liked our campsite despite no showers. NOTE: I have a headlamp and loose black strap that ended up in C14; I'll give it to Shannon Wednesday. If it's yours, let her know...

    Hi Shannon,
I asked Mary to carpool with me, but last we e-mailed she in only going Fri- Sat. I am driving and can take my car or SUV. I had a bad experience with another group taking a male I did not know. If I bring someone I would prefer a woman, or if a man someone you know and could say he is okay. No males that are strangers to both of us. I live off of I-5. It would be wonderful if a potential passenger could be a navigator as I don't know exactly where I am going.

Shannon, I will be arriving around 8 pm Thurs and staying until Sunday. Please save me a spot for my camper. Also, I stayed in B31 last year, really good campsite. Other sites adjacent are B29, B25, B32. Also good sites in C loop.

Can someone tell me what is the best route to take? I remember there is a short cut by getting off the main freeway, but it has been to many years and I don't remember it anymore.

Shannon, What time do you expect to arrive at the campgrounds and where will everyone meet for the hike to Gaylor Lakes?

I plan to leave Sac around 7am and get to Tuolumne Meadows campground around 11am. After we set up camp, we'll leave around 2pm for Gaylor Lake.

I was able to get off Wednesday and Thursday, so will be joining you for all four days. I think I already paid for Friday/Saturday. If not, please let me know.
